My friend and I from Connecticut are touring Sao Miguel and took the Pure Azores tour of the western part of the island. Our guide, Joao, is enthusiastic and gracious. His information about the history, geology, culture and sweet little tales of the island kept us entertained. He went beyond expectations by suggesting other interesting places to visit, made reservations for us at a restaurant we are excited to try. On top of all this, Joao intervened on our behalf with our car rental agency when the battery died and we were stuck. We are both delighted and grateful with Pure Azores and Joao.

We did both the East and West Full Day tours and they were fabulous. Beautiful scenery, breathtaking view, good food and our tour guide for both, Jaoa, was a fountain of knowledge and very enthusiastic about his country. The small groups tours (8 people) are definitely preferable to larger ones. We met some great people from Canada, United States and Oman. We would highly recommend either or both tours.

I went to Portugal with my husband and we had a hard time figuring out which one was the best tour for us and we are so glad we went with this one.
Just to be super clear for future travelers, this is a van tour. There is NOT a lot of hiking and trail walking. There were only a few spots that required leg work. If you are looking to spend a longer period of time to do some of the walking trails and check out things at a more leisurely pace, this is not the tour for you as there isn’t enough time to see everything on the tour (it’s already 8 hours long!) and spend time walking along the trails in multiple spots and stopping at every single outlook post.

What you will get:
- Amazing views from many postcard worthy spots. *I will also add the disclaimer that we were very lucky in terms of weather and it was very clear for us with a sprinkle of rain in between.
- Buffet lunch that was delicious and had a nice variety. It was nice to be eating lunch next to locals and not just in some touristy trap
- awesome guide who is not only super knowledgeable but also has some great dad jokes and a pretty goofy sense of humor

One last note, and I guess technically it’s a SPOILER ALERT:

We ended the tour at this super cute pineapple plantation and I think multiple people in our group mistook the “visit pineapple plantation” with “we get to eat fresh pineapple samples from the plantation”. After we learned about how it takes 2-2.5 years to organically grow the pineapples, some of us were sadden to find out that these delicious pineapples are not for eating fresh. Instead they’re turned into liquor. Whomp whomp. We did get a little taste of the liquor. *great for some people. Not great for the few who don’t drink and were excited about the fresh pineapple...

However! There’s this little snack stand just outside of the gift shop (you really can’t miss it) and they had fresh pineapple juice and a pineapple cake that was so incredibly delicious. Highly recommend spending the extra € on this cake *hopefully it’s the same cake all the time?

Also complete side note, the plantation has 8(?) cats roaming the property and they told us that they are all properly vetted so anyone was welcome to pet them if they crossed paths and you so desired. We only saw two maybe three of them but there were a few kids playing with them

Thanks a lot to our guide Fernando. I'm a journalist so for me it's very important to get not only usual and unusual information regarding the route of the tour and sightseeings but also to feel how people live here on the island. And that's what I got. All those nature's views were impressive, Fernando's manner of communicating with people was also much better than you normally expect from the tour guides. The lunch was nice as well as the ocean✌️ Highly recommended.

This is an awesome way to get to know São Miguel beyond the obvious tourist attractions, and through this tour, I discovered my favorite spot on the island! Fernando is a terrific guide, and even though the bad weather prevented us from seeing some places, he made up for it with a few detours. I really recommend this tour company!

My guide Fernando was fantastic and his knowledge of the island and beyond was inspirational, I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with him and learning lots. The West side of the island is breathtakingly beautiful, I would defiantly recommend taking this tour. A day I will never forget.

The Azores are absolutely beautiful, and seeing them with an amazing and very knowledgeable tour guide was the best experience I've ever had with a tour. I had booked one tour of the West side of Sao Miguel and had such a great time with my guide Mario that I ended up booking the East side tour for the next day.

These tours are the BEST way to see all the highlights of the island. And a tour with Mario teaches you all there is to know about the history, culture, landscape of the island and so much more. Thank you Mario and Pure Azores tours for making my trip so memorable!!

Second tour with Pure Azores and again with Joao as guide.
As the previous tour also in this second tour I was very satisfied with everything (guide, included lunch, visited places, etc.).
A lot of beautiful places to discover and good explanations by Joao.
Not possible to ask more!

My husband, daughter and I went on the East Tour with our guide Fernando the day after our tour with him on the West Tour. In fact, our fellow tourers on the West tour from the day before came along too because we all had such a fun and good experience - and as we hoped - Fernando - was our guide again. The two tours are very different. We trekked up a high beautiful trail, walked a park with more beautiful botannica and gorgeous waterfalls; we saw the geothermal cooking area where not only our lunch was being cooked but also had designated pits for S.Miguel restaurants for their traditional Azorean stews; and then bathed in the beautiful thermal heated pools at another but formal botanical garden. You can elect to bathe or tour the gardens.Half of our group went to the pools and the other half toured the garden. I would so much like to go back in the spring and spend hours at this garden when the camilla and other flowering bushes and trees are in bloom. This tour is a must when visiting S.Miguel.
