At first I thought it was not a church as the facade is simply white with some volcanic rocks. The church is not big but it has a big golden main altar and pulpit. The walls also got azulejos. The interior design is really amazing.

This church is home to a miraculous image of Jesus Christ and is very much venerated in the island. Because of this, many locals visit the place to pray.

Fabulous little church. Gold plated chapel with holy cross. Small place but it’s nice we were able to see it. Not far from the main square. Some say this square is nicer but I think the one in municipality is nicer

One of the most beautiful churches I've ever seen, also one of the only non-active churches on the islands. Igreja do Santo Cristo is officially a museum, the entire building is a work of art, the incredible details in the display just stunning.

If you want to see faith at its highest and religious procession with pomp and circumstance, visit this island in May. The image of Christ of the Miracles gets out of its church, which is one of the smallest in the city, and goes on a procession that takes about 3 hours through the streets of the city preceded by all types of incredible people wearing colorful garb and following by the faithful carrying candles and rosaries in gratitude for miracles received in their lives. There is so much to describe in the beauty of this event that I strongly recommend that you do take the time, someday, to be there in person to see it. People visit this event from all over the world. It takes 3-4 days an there is so much going on, you will never not have something to do. While in the island, take the time to see an incredible amount of unspoiled beauty. The weather can be warm of a bit chilly, but much better than in the USA at that time. Everything is in bloom, and that is why for this Christ of the Miracle processing all the streets are covered with geometric designs of colorful flowers and greenery in geometric designs. Most of the people in the processing walk away from the middle( close to the sidewalks) so that when the image passes, it will still go over fresh flowers. It's incredible!

This is second to Fatima, and it was an amazing find. Don't miss the little alcove to the left as you entire where you can make a request (with a small donation). My request, and it was a difficult one, came true. I wish to go back.

It is just one of those churchs that you can feel the vibe and you feel very emotional and in touch with your feelings! The craftsmen work is beautiful and the whole story behind everything is wonderful!

A very special presence pervades this church. It is very much alive with all the energy that has gone into it for about four centuries. I found it by accident. As soon as I stepped in, I knew I had come in touch with that sense of peace we instinctively and intuitively seek, even if we don't realize that is what we are seeking. It was quiet, calm, understated in appearance, but it all seemed so perfect, in a humble and yet elegant way.

It is Beauty. It is beautiful. Please take the time to step into this sacred atmosphere that gives much more than it takes.

Also the visiting hour from 5:30 to 6:30 when you can see the Santo Cristo statue up close is well worth the visit.

We go Azores every year just to attend a Feast Of Senhor Santo Christo. That is main reason of many thousands of people to S.Miguel.the church is always packed to the outside.
Being in church is peacefully, serenity,Divine, and never inside meditation. The decorations with the most beautiful flowers,
There is no desire to leave the Presence of Devinity, the religious Statues, the art and history.Amazing.One should never miss.

This is a beautiful, very old church with a magnificent gold altar. At the back of the church there is a metal gate where the statue of Senh;or Santo Cristo is kept. It is also very beautiful adorned with beautiful flowers.
