It was difficult to find and the only identification that I found it was graffittied scrawl across the building at the top of the hill. The entrance was narrow, rutted, poorly maintained and without signage. I turned around and went back to my cottage. Also, after 5 business days, no one answered my email about visiting the site.

Our family of 9 traveled to Sao Miguel and booked the Gin Library while there. We can not recommend that you try this on your visit enough! What a fabulous time we had. Ali is so personable and we talked about everything under the sun, including Gin! To see the extent of his library collection was quite the experience. The pictures simply don't to it justice! The grounds of Solar Branco are simply breath-taking. I can't wait to see the finished reconstruction and love how it is being historically restored with so much attention to the details! The conversation was simply fascinating learning about Ali's journey and what lead him to clearly his passion which is sharing his knowledge and expertise with people from around the globe! There were many in our party that were not huge gin drinkers but getting to try several different gins from around the world that one wouldn't necessarily get the opportunity to, was truly an experience we are all glad we did! We loved getting to meet Mrs, B! This truly is a must do when visiting the island- I promise you won't be disappointed. Also we took 2 bottles of Gin home in our luggage and no issues what so ever! We can't wait to see the merchandise coming soon, as we LOVE LOVE LOVE the logo, and also the fact that a portion of each sale goes to Whale Conservation! Win - Win! Can't wait to stop by again on our next visit to the island!

Having a veg partner and personally not being being a big meat eater, we really wanted to experience Cozido and were very skeptical about where to go for it. Enter Ali and Caroline. They offered a complete experience which included a trip to the cooking spot and pulling our own meals out of the earth..
The food was delicious and at no point did we feel that we were missing out by not eating meat. We also couldn’t have asked for a better setting, sitting amongst one of the world’s largest private gin collection 😍
Special thanks to Caroline and Ali for opening their doors to us, especially on Christmas when everything else on the island was shut and the awesome hospitality and an amazing experience!
Can’t wait to visit you guys again and stay on your estate this time around..:

We had an amazing time chatting about gins and some more with Ali. They have a fantastic estate; 2 very cute pets (big shoutout to chocolate) and a gin collection that made me and my wife go weak on our knees on one hand and go (Tanqueray) green with envy on another. The gin masterclass is a must do for someone who enjoys gins, is curious to know more or both. Ali is supremely knowledgeable and a fantastic host. Our only regret, we couldn’t make bookings in time to stay on their estate - something for our next visit. In the meantime, we plan to go a few more times to savor the other experiences Ali and Caroline have curated on this beautiful island.

Wow what a great thing as a vegan to be able to taste the local cuisine style! The food was so tasty and Caroline and Ali are great hosts. We even had vegan ice cream to finish and the gin on arrival was great! Thank you for a great experience.

Thanks so much for our forest bathing session! I felt deeply relaxed and yet energized. We visited a beautiful spot in sete cidade where we were able to experience the forest and the water. It opened me to experience my surroundings with every sense and become very present. Afterwards we had tea and natural treats from the island . Caroline leaves the experience open so that it can suit many types of people. I left feeling very positive and joyful.

Caroline did an amazing job of teaching and preparing for the sausage making class. We had a delightful afternoon in a beautiful setting, would recommend this activity to anyone!

An activity both locals and visitors can enjoy. I live in Achadinha, on the other side of the island, and the experience was worth the drive. My two nieces (ages 5 and 8) still mention the special day they had at Solar Branco. It was quite nice to see both children and adults alike, enjoying to bring their white tile to life.

This experience was such good fun and so tasty too! Caroline has this down to a science and makes the whole process simple and fun for those of us rookies in the sausage making game. She walked us through the details of what ingredients were required and how to combine them into, in our case, chorizo and English breakfast sausages. After we mixed all the goodness together we loaded up the finished product into a sausage filler and filled sausage casings with the results of our labours. The filling and twisting of the casings was most entertaining but the best part comes at the end when we got to eat some of the tasty morsels we produced. Yum! Definitely fun, definitely delicious!

This is not my normal travel experience but I'm open to trying new and interesting things and experiences. With Caroline's guidance we immersed ourselves in our surroundings and got to take in sights and sounds and smells of a parcel of land on the estate. Its a very peaceful and relaxing place and for a short time we were able to focus on nature and the environment we were in. At the end we enjoyed some tea and had a nice chat. A pleasant experience for sure.
