My husband and I did one of the private shore excursions with 2 other couples from our ship. Wow, it was great! We did tour #7, which gave us a very nice exposure to the island, including visits to Furnas (hot springs, garden), national park with waterfall, tea factory, multiple panoramic viewpoints, and many other local sights. Gary was very knowledgeable and personable. He deftly adapted the itinerary to fit weather patterns and to avoid large tour crowds at the more touristy spots. He also was flexible with our requests, especially when we all wanted cheese ... Gary brought us to a favorite queijaria, where we enjoyed delicious food and drink and pleasant conversation. Making arrangements was very easy, with good communication and no problems with pick-up and drop-off. (I'd also like to mention that in 2020 when we had to cancel because of pandemic, Gary was very kind and efficient at refunding our payment.) A perfect day. We would definitely use Azorean Tours again!

We luckily had Marco pick us up at the airport to transfer us to our hotel. We asked him about car rentals to explore the island, and he made great suggestions...we then asked if he provided that service, and he explained that he could do that as well. It was by far the BEST option. Marco was very prompt, full of information, and showed us areas of the island that are not on the "tourist route" We immediately booked him for a second full day, and pre-arranged our transfer back to the airport with him. If you are going to Sao Miguel, then call him in advance (+351) 913 189 125 or you can e-mail him at marco-pavao@sapo.pt You can tell him Miss Portugal, and the Sarge sent you!!

My friend and I went on an amazing hike to Rocha da Relva with Gary through Azorean Tours. He provided lots on information about the Azores as well as the specific plants we saw on the hike. Gary walked at our pace and took as many breaks for photos as we wanted, so we did not feel rushed at all. The hike itself has incredible views and it is perfect for people who have limited time on the island since is was only about 2.5 hours. I highly recommend booking a hike with Gary, who is knowledgable, friendly and clearly passionate about what he does.

We too visited this port on a transatlantic cruise but our experience was not good. Our tour guide was evidently a last minute no-show, so a taxi driver was substituted instead. A nice man, but unfortunately he spoke little English. We were so looking to our visit here and learning about Ponta Delgado, especially since we are unlikely to return. But we ended up with a mostly silent taxi ride that did not make all the advertised stops and did not last the advertised six hours. We learned nothing about the area. And the stop at the 'pineapple plantation' was a joke. To call them 'plantations' is a stretch. It was a look into a greenhouse, then a visit to the gift shop. A couple we met later on our cruise ship evidently visited a different set of pineapple greenhouses where a staff member discussed the process, then showed them a video. They also had fresh pineapples for sale at the other location.
After the tour ended, we walked on our own to a market where we purchased fresh pineapple for less than 3 euros. It was delicious!! Definitely try it when you visit this port.

Rodrigo gave us a great tour of the island and took us to places we would have not gotten to on a cruise ship excursion. He also went out of his way to make a couple of special requests happen, like setting up a wi-fi hot spot with his phone so we could access the internet during the day. I would highly recommend this tour, and this company, to anyone who wants a great tour of the beautiful island of Sao Miguel. My wife and I thought this would be the only time we would be in the Azores, but after this tour we want to come back and a week or more.

Unfortunately we missed the tour because our cruise ship canceled due to weather. So why the 5 star review? The company did everything they could to help us. They communicated with us every step of the way and quickly refunded the tour as soon as I notified them of the cancellation of our port visit to Ponta Delgata. The tours they offer were 1/4 the cost of the cruise ship tour offers and they offer private vehicles and flexible itineraries. They also offer a wider range of sites to choose from. Absolutely, without a doubt, I will book with this company when we go to Ponta Delgata. Gary, thank you very much for offering a legit service that is clearly the best tour company to choose. I really hope to visit in the future. You have a built a solid company that clearly puts your customers first, something that is increasingly difficult to find. We really appreciate your help and super fast responses.

Third time booking a tour with Gary, each one being custom designed to include the sights we wished to visit. Gary is relaxed, professional and knowledgeable. His English is excellent and he is a safe driver! Communication leading up to the tour was excellent as well. Gary recommended a great restaurant for lunch and allowed us to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. If this is your first trip to the island don’t hesitate to book a tour as there is so much beauty to be discovered! One visit and you will be dreaming of your return!

Although I did not have a tour with Azorean Tours, I was fortunate enough to encounter taxi driver (and tour guide) Marco Pavao upon arriving at Sao Miguel's airport at 6am a few weeks ago.
My rental car company did not have their act together due to a miscommunication in booking and so I was left stranded at the airport with no way to get to the Azor hotel in town. Marco pulled over and offered to take us to the hotel, FREE OF CHARGE!
He was so friendly and effusive about his beautiful country, he said "The last thing you want to do when arriving for your vacation is stress about your rental car, or finding an ATM to pay me..just go and enjoy yourself, and call me when it's time to bring you back to the airport at the end of your stay and we can settle it then."
I was so touched and flabbergasted by his offer, based completely on trust and creating a good impression for a first-time visitor, that of course I called him a few days later when it was time to go and he showed up at the hotel on time and took us to the airport like an old friend.
I have travelled a lot and rarely if ever encountered someone so genuine and friendly and trusting of someone they just met moments before. We could have easily thanked him for the ride and not bothered to follow up, but of course we would never do that.
I just want to say how rare that is, and what a nice impression of Portugal and the Azores he left with us as a result! Bravo!

Gary was extremely responsive and help get us his last vehicle for the day we visited.
Our guide Nunu was the highlight of our trip. He anticipated what would make us happy and took us to experience everything we asked for.
He taught us how to drink from a well properly.
We enjoyed a meal cooked in a volcano.
We went to gorgeous lookouts.
We even stopped in town for wine and chocolate

We had a fantastic tour with Gary around the Nordeste region of the island, and he even took is to a few other areas as well. He is a complete wealth of knowledge on the Island, and incredibly friendly. The areas he took us too were amazingly beautiful, and he allowed us the freedom to explore ourselves on foot after giving us the information on each area which really was fantastic. (extending the time of the tour as we had a long walk at the beautiful waterfalls. Sorry for making you wait Gary) but he was very happy for us to explore and very free with the itenary on what we wanted to see. He also took us to an amazing local restaurant!
It's definitely worth going on the private tour, we had his full attention, incredibly comfortable in the car and much more flexible. Brilliant trip and cannot wait to visit other areas of the island in future.

Yes we do and finish at the cruis terminal or in the city of Ponta Delgada if you still have time after the Tour, since it is around 5 or 10 mins walk or less to the ship.

My grandparents are from Sao Miguel so we want to tour there, for sure. I wouldn't mind going to other islands as well, but definitely want a private tour. We will be traveling Sept. of 2017. Can you give us an itinerary, approximate price and what is best to see. We are willing to stay as long as we need to. We will not be on a cruise ship. We are not in a hurry. Should we go to Maderia? Hi, on website of azoreantours you will find all information with tour itinerary. We took Tour No.1 and it was perfect, the price for private van for 6 adults was 200 Euro, the trip started at 9:00 and finished at 18:00, the price for 4 people is 150 Euro. It is worth seeing, Gary was perfect I can highly reccommended him, he made a stops where we wanted, no hurry and he rtalked about the life in Sao Miquel. This north- west part of Sao Miquel is the most beautiful. To go from Sao Miquel to Madeira is a good idea, we were there 6 yeras ago and it there were nice trips along levadas.

Elaine, In December we used a private tour from Azorean Tours. We were extremely pleased. One day we had a van that could probably hold six. He has several cars and tour guides and different types of tours that might suit you. Email him -- he is very good about getting back to you quickly and ask. The price is per vehicle -- not per person so it is reasonable. Hope you enjoy the island as much as we did.

We will be arriving in PD on March 25th for four days before heading to another island - we are a group of nine adults can you recommend a tour to see the island and learn about the people, history and sample-local foods, that we can take together as one group.

Hi Wendy,
I recomend at least 2 days to see Sao Miguel island.
It may look small in terms of sqaure miles or square Kms, but it is a very diverse island, so it requires some time to explore it, just by Touring. If you include hiking, whale watching, and other activities then you will need more time for your stay here.

f you click on the right side or the top of website, you will see the diferente intinaries, photos of the places you will visit and stop, time aproxamility and price/taxi (taxi 1 to 4 passengers, 5 with the driver), not per person.
Normally, I do Private Tours. That is what I have described on my website. I do too, Transfers and Hiking Tours, on Sao Miguel island but I can help you or recomend things on the Azores.
