We went in February when there are more clouds, so we didn’t get a chance to see the different coloured waters the blue and green lakes are famous for. Still, the place is amazing and no photo can do it justice. View from Boca do...More
We came by car from Punta Delgada, simple on a fine road. Took the good advice of passing the road to the lake, to proceed to the Vista do Rei a couple of kilometers further on. Spectacular view, as all the pictures testify to. We...More
The caldeira is the lake in the middle of the volcano. Best views are from logia do Canario and the Boca do Inferno. Then you can drive down through the town of Sete Cidade to see the caldeira up close. Not to be missed. Only...More
I visited Caldeira Velha and Sete Cidades this year and it was amazing! What I loved about it was that the people were friendly, the air was clean, and the natural colors of the florals and greenery were beautiful. I was able to bathe in...More
This is a perfect caldera to walk around the ridge and with a visit to the village is about 17 miles taking about 7 hours with a 30 minute stop. Missing the village at the bottom would take much less time not to mention the...More

In order to get the two best views, there is very limited walking needed. The first viewpoint is where the abandoned hotel is. This has a big parking lot and is where most of the tourists can be found. The second view point is about a 15 minute walk, but not very strenuous terrain. To get there, you go past the hotel (so the hotel on your right, view of lakes on your left) and continue on that road. Don't take the next left that looks like the road is going down to the lakes. Continue straight on that road for about 15 minutes and you will see a sign for a park, with a dirt parking lot. The gate is open so drive down there and it will bring you to more parking about 5 minutes in. (totally fine for any type of car). From here, you will be able to see exactly where to go for the best view.
