This is a beautiful view of what could be a postcard. There is a hiking trail down if you're feeling adventurous, but it would not be suitable if you aren't in decently good shape.

This is a great stopover for anyone to get a view of the lake. It is amazing. For the more adventurous, hiking to the bottom of the crater t the lake is worthwhile. Bring good boots and preferably hiking poles though the latter is not...More

We hiked to the lake using the hike leaflet from the visitazores.com website. It is a very rewarding trail across a varied terrain. The lake itself is beautiful and peaceful. If you love great views and hiking, this is one of the best of both!...More

One could hike down to the lake, but i chose to stay up top and simply enjoy the view. On a good clear day, you can see the ocean at the horizon and the lake at the base. It is pretty magnificent. Go up a...More

The first day we were unable to see the area due to fog, but went back the next morning determined to see the site. It was well worth the effort, as the results were stunning -- beautiful and serene. There were many tour buses, but...More

Well worth the time and money. Beautiful scenery and yet sometimes it looked like we were in Ireland or Scotland. High up in the mountains, we were in the clouds. Our guide was very informative and friendly and spoke good English.

Great vistas. You stand on the side of the road and take pictures... There is a trail going down that unfortunately we couldn't hike (health issue). We went there as part on ANC ATV tour which was great. Easily accessible by car.

You drive up the hill for a while. You stop at the "Caldeira Velha" and you after you keep up the hill. all the driving uphill is worth. The view from up there is just impressive. As in most of the all Sao Miguel lagoons,...More

Visited as part of our cruise ship tour. It was misty and we was not sure that we would have a clear view. Our guide was amazed that it was clear of mist and said to take photos quickly as it can change so quickly....More

I don't believe there is public transport to the mountain. We rented a vehicle and drove to the top(rim) and then hiked down. I did notice several couples coming from the bottom and hiking up as we were going down. There are... More

There is a paved road going to the top of the hill overlooking the lake, but I really would not see it as a hiking area. You would want to take a vehicle to the top. Once there, you will find plenty of easy places to walk... More
