It’s definitely worth hiking. Even when foggy is more majestic. Some of the steps down are high so it’s can be hard but accesible, as you are in the mountain not in the spa resort. Don’t hesistate to go down and feel that calmness and...More

The whole area of the lake is a nature reserve so there is nothing there: no bathrooms, no restaurants, just beautiful nature. This is pretty unique!!. Check the webcams before you go! We went the first time when it was misty and saw absolutely nothing....More

We parked at the viewpoint, and followed the steps down to the lake. It was a fairly easy walk, but quite steep. We picnicked on the lakeside beach, and the kids played. Then made our way back up.

Came here to view the lake from the top and then saw the track down and people walking it so decided to follow them. It took about 30 mins to get down a track with steep steps and some mud so you need trainers/ hiking...More

This place is so beautiful. Anyone visiting the Azores should make a point to see it. We wanted to do the hike to the ocean but it was too wet. Still it was more than worth the trip

This is a must-see when in São Miguel. It's easy to find with signs from the south-coast highway. There are several viewpoints by the west side of the lake, Pico da Barrossa and Miradouro Lagoa do Fogo are the most visited with much parking space....More

So, if you come from somewhere where that has very view lakes, or somewhere that has no lakes without a ton of houses on them, then this and all other lakes in Sao Miguel are cool. If you come from Canada where we have many...More

We have had changeable weather during our stay on Sao Miguel but, on the basis that one can experience rain, clouds, mist, wind and sun all in the space of an hour here, we headed up to Lagoa do Fogo anyway. The road up is...More

We drove it yesterday. Easy drive and well marked parking spots along the way. If weather is good you should be able to see it all. Even if it is a little cloudy. But don't let the weather stop you. We noticed it can change... More

I don't believe there is public transport to the mountain. We rented a vehicle and drove to the top(rim) and then hiked down. I did notice several couples coming from the bottom and hiking up as we were going down. There are... More

There is a paved road going to the top of the hill overlooking the lake, but I really would not see it as a hiking area. You would want to take a vehicle to the top. Once there, you will find plenty of easy places to walk... More
