We did the night climb with Daniel. The booking process was easy and very friendly communication with Monica. The day before we got the go ahead from her that the climb was on according to the forecasts. Drove up to the Mountain Hut as agreed at 1,45 am and to be honest we were a bit apprehensive since the road was enveloped in fog and drizzly rain. However once we set off it cleared up after a few mins and the climb was all done in clear weather. Daniel is a great guide, Gentle and soft spoken, took it at a nice pace with breaks in between and made sure we could handle the climb. It's not an easy one, because it's mostly rocks, but arriving at the summit in time for sunrise was a fantastic feeling. We spent nearly an hour on top enjoying the spectacle and a couple of cups of coffee which Daniel offered from his thermos. Much appreciated! The descent was tough on the legs but the scenery made up for it. Again Daniel paced it well and it felt really great arriving together back at the hut.
I highly recommend doing this climb, and I even more highly recommend doing it with Atipico. They take only small groups (max 8), and for me that is a very important point. Daniel is very competent and always felt safe with him.
Just go for it, and thanks once again Daniel!

It has been an incredible adventure.
Both our group and guide (Nuno) made the whole experience unforgettable.
Nuno is very well prepared, ready to make even the toughest climb an enjoyable experience. He shared with the group past climbing stories and fun facts about the mountain. If you are thinking of climbing Pico, I recommend Atipico, the 8 hours will just fly by!!

Atipico was a fabulous tour guide and I would recommend them to anyone looking to climb Mt Pico. Five of us climbed Mt Pico with Nuno in July 2020and he made the long excursion very pleasant. He taught us a lot about the island and mountain on the way up, kept an eye out for al the climbers that were at different levels of strength and had all necessary equipment - from band aids to extra water and shoes laces. His wife took care of all the pre- and post- climb communications and was very quick to respond to any requests. I’d go back to them any time and would highly recommend them!

We hiked Pico with Nuno in June 2020. We were a group of sailors who, having just sailed across the Atlantic from the Caribbean, were thrown together in camaraderie due to the C19 crisis. After we all testing negative for C19, one of our first activities ashore on these beautiful islands was hike Pico. We met Nuno early in the morning on a bright, cloudless day at the Mountain House, near the start of the Pico trail. He was cheery, encouraging and patient. His pace up and then back down the mountain was perfect for the group. At the top of the mountain he even surprised us with a cup of warm coffee and home grown strawberries. I real treat after the hike. Prior to the hike, Nuno stayed in touch with us via email and WhatsApp and he was very clear about what we needed to bring with us, what time we needed to meet and our transport options to and from Pico. We had an incredibly memorable day and cannot recommendations atiPICO enough.

If you decide to climb Pico, I highly recommend doing it with a guide due to the rugged terrain, strenuous climb (i.e., knowing when to turn back) and high chance of bad weather/getting lost in the fog. Everyone visiting is required to wear GPS, have the proper footwear and carry at least 1.5L of water.

I had the time of my life crossing off this bucket list item thanks to my guide Nuno and his wife Mónica at Atipico Azores who guided me and also taught me how to move cows out of the road with my car. :) As a solo traveler I felt so much more comfortable going with them!

Not only are they great guides but also knew a ton about local endemic species of birds + plants! There are other touring companies but Atipico is a small local family business you want to support!

We (me and my girlfriend) did the morning climb together with Nuno and one might say we were accidentally privileged since it was just us and Nuno in the group. Nuno is a great guy, making the trip to the top a very enjoyable experience. With more than 450 climbs so far, and 11 years of hiking and climbing experience, he knows his way around the mountain and led us all the way to the top in around 3.5 hours and similar on the way down. He helped us to keep a good rhythm, maintained nice conversation and told us many stories from his climbs as well as facts related to the mountain’s and island’s flora and fauna!

All in all, we’ve had a fantastic time climbing up and down mount Pico and felt safe every step of the way! Thanks Atipico!

We had an amazing hiking experience with super guide Monica. She gave a lot of information about (Mount) Pico and knew to entertain us from beginning till the end so all participants became one happy group. This was without any doubt a highlight of our stay in Pico/Azores.

We hired Monica as our guide to climb PICO and we had a blast. Monica is very professional and very fun at the same time, She climbed PICO over 300 times and has plenty of experience hiking. She gave us a little coffee at the top which was a nice surprise. Due to the weather changing quickly, it is better to take a guide, she will prepare you well on what you need for the trip too. The experience is very worth it and all my friends were happy !

I did a lot of research before booking the Pico climb with atiPICO and we were all extremely happy with the decision. The atiPICO website has tons of information about the climb so that you can prepare beforehand and know exactly what you are getting yourself into. Everything is clearly stated and all our questions were answered (even ones that we did not think of). As a result, there were no unpleasant surprises on the day of our climb. Additionally, atiPICO tries to keep their group size to 8 per guide. Sometimes this is not possible due to weather or rescheduling. This makes the experience much more enjoyable because you can develop more of a camaraderie with your fellow climbers. We saw other guides with huge groups and were glad that we weren't being led by them.

Nuno was our guide for the day and he was very professional and affable. While you could tell that he loved the Azores, Pico Island and what he does for a living, he was just a regular guy that you might meet and have a conversation with. You could tell he is very experienced at guiding the less experienced by the tips and tricks he gave to help us conserve energy and minimize strain on our knees. He helped us maintain a steady pace without putting undue pressure on the slower members of the group (me!). He was extremely observant and attentive without being overbearing. Nuno is also a wonderful storyteller and conversationalist and kept us entertained with stories about his life, family, travels, and past climbs. All this while maintaining strict safety standards for all of our group! He also speaks multiple languages so communication was easy.

I was particularly nervous about this climb as it is the most challenging activity that I've ever attempted but Nuno quickly put our group at ease. I highly recommend booking with atiPico if you care at all about having a great time and being safe!

atiPICO is really a professional group. We booked our climb in advance and before the climbing day we had to deal with some challenges (personal ones, nothing with Atipico). They were absolutely flexible and supportive and thanks to this we managed to join them for a climb. The climb itself was cancelled first due to weather conditions (which is completely understandable in the middle of the Atlantic ocean) and we liked very much how this company dealt with it. In one hand we really had the impression that they keep the “safety first” in mind. In the other hand they made every effort to find another slot for us before the end of our holiday and finally we had an amazing experience. Our guide was Daniel and he is a professional and experienced guide knowing the mountain very well. He was familiar with every piece of rock in the mountain :)
