They do a brilliant job on this island with toilets and showers and life guards. Excellent!!!! Good large beach, dark sand and you can go out along way before you are deep. Great for the children. Watch out for the man of war jellyfish though...They aren't always there but i would give it a miss if they are.

On a good day it's awesome. Be careful of the stinging jelly fish if there are any. So refreshing. lots of room and even camping and a park. Worth going too.

There are several public beaches on Faial Island and all are beautiful. Since the weather is rather mild there are plenty of days to visit the beach and swim or relax on the sand.

Situated about 3 km north of the capital Horta, this long beach of black volcanic sand is the safest and most sheltered bathing beach on Faial island. There are a couple of bars and restuarants and a large park behind it, showers, public toilets and a quayside from which you can dive into the warm clear water. I swam in October and the water temperature was still a pleasant 22C

Stunning views across to Pico in a charming bay. Had a drink at a very uncharacteristically modern but nice restaurant by the sea.

Some great little bars overlooking the bay. Lots of fun.
Just go...the Azores are beyond fantastic. read my reviews about the island. if you love exploring, hiking, whale watching, fishing, wine, good beer, seafood and great food, no crime and very friendly people, and mountains and hills, as well as peace and tranquility. this is a great place

This is a really quiet beach, at least in late September. Has a few restaurants and it's a good place to go for a walk, contemplate the views and enjoy a good meal.

This beach is mostly for locals. And when I was visiting it was in a beautiful weather and quite a lot of people enjoying a day at the beach of course. But - the day before I had been to Pim Beach in Horta - and it was more nice. Then - it it white sand instead of the volcanic grey sand in Almoxarife. More easy to park.

I'm used to see beaches surrounded by palm trees or lots of buildings and then a huge and endless ocean. This one is different. It is surrounded by green places and yes, it has some houses and cafés but they go with the landscape as something natural and not so handmade. The ocean also seems endless but it's more interesting because you can actually see 3 other islands, being Pico one of them. Dark sand and rocks go beautifully with the blue/grey-ish ocean. It is a really nice and quite place where you can bathe yourself or swim or just sit on the rocks and read. There's also a camping spot right across the street which is cheap (3€ / day) - imagine falling asleep listening to the weird sound of some birds and the ocean and waking up to see the beach and the other islands!

The view on the way down was only surpassed by the view from the location itself! The sun, the surf, the hills, the mountains... haven't seen anything like it before!
