Great views over the town of Louie with town market down below.
A bit of a hike from town centre.
Typical ornate religious Portuguese church.

Great views from the top but the church was closed which would have been annoying if we had walked to the church instead of driving. Don't understand the reason for keeping the church closed.

High on the hill, reachable by car is this dome shaped church and chapel.
The views over Loule are beautiful, quiet surroundings.
Not very impressive from a architectural point of view.

We had spent the day exploring Loule and the trek up to this was one step too far so we drove. Plenty of parking and the views over the town and surrounding countryside are lovely. Truly peaceful, this place is really for the religious rather than the tourist but it is worth a look.

Being aware of the immensity of the religious culture in Portugal, I have to admit that I was disappointed by this Shrine. It is underwhelming and it looks like there is no wish whatsoever to invite pilgrims (or just curious minds) inside. On the plus side, the statues inside are very nice artworks and the light hitting them creates interesting shadows and reflections.

This building is visible from all over Loule and the walk to it in the heat can be strenuous, but if you're careful along the main road you turn off and start a quite steep ascent up a winding footpath to the top.
The views of the town and surrounding areas are stunning and worth the climb, but the actual new church is quite plain inside, no stained glass and almost all wooden cladding inside.
It's a very quiet and solemn space to reflect and pray, but the architecture outside comes across as very modern and cold, even though it is impressive from a distance.
The original chapel at the front, on the other hand is beautifully preserved and has stunningly detailed decoration and is worth the climb.
You can drive here, accessing the road further past the footpath, but I think the walk adds to the atmosphere.

This is commonly known as the Nun's Breast because the shape so closely resembles the cake of the same name. As a religious centre, the Shrine is what you would expect, no facilities here, unless you want to light a candle. If thinking of a walk here, do it for the exercise, not for the attraction. Not really a place for tourists, more a place to reflect for the truly religious.

From the town you can see the pilgrims path climbing to the top of the hill. The view from town of the church with its domed roof , sitting on the hill top is very pretty. We took the back road up to the parking lot at the top. Much easier for those of us who are not pilgrims. The church itself is very simple and not particularly interesting. The smaller barrel shaped chapel in front of the church is actually prettier.

The Shrine attracts a huge audience in Easter week when there is a major procession. At other times it is deserted but it is a very large undertaking and worth a visit
