If you are to visit this beach you must be able to do stairs. The staircase is excellent but fairly steep. Although a small beach with no facilities, it is stunning, with the cliffs and cutouts in the cliffs. One of the most Beautiful beaches we visited in Portugal.

The last couple of days we’ve visited quite a few of Lagos’ many beaches.

Dona Ana is our favorite- it’s just perfect in any sense.

Meis Praia is the biggest, almost perfect, but not picturesque.

Porto do Mós is quite big, quite picturesque and has a very nice restaurant.

Praia da Pinhao reminds of Dana Ana and is located 2 minutes away. It’s very small, and not many people find their way down - it’s one of the most private of Lagos’ many beaches.

We visited this beach first and were very impressed. It’s small but beautiful.

There is no where to get food and drink at this beach - but a lovely local man came around selling sandwiches, fruit, and cold drinks.

A lovely afternoon can be spent here!

Brisk walk along the cliffs to get there, but well worth it! Get's half as big with the high tide, funny to see the people moving back and forth with the tides.

Praia do Pinhão is a typical quiet, sandy cove, and, as with most other beaches in Lagos, this one also offers some beautiful views.

However, the stairs leading down to the sand are a bit of a challenge, not because of the number of stairs - far more stairs at Praia do Camilo and at Ponta da Piedade - but because of the poor condition they're in. Consist of uneven broken stone, covered with a layer of slippery sand and no hand rails.

Great views are still possible from the viewing platform closer to the top, so really no need to 'meet the challenge' of the stairs unless going for a swim is at top of your list.

There are a string of small beaches just south of the town that are worth a visit. Despite being only a few minutes walk away they do not have an urban feel. The cliffs protect you from the town. You may need to brave the sea to get from one to another.

Lovely quiet beach not crowded with some caves to discover as well! Beautiful and our favorite of the ones we were at (Dona Ana and Don camilo)

Out of 9 days in Lagos we spent 5 days at Pinhoa. You cannot go wrong with coming here for any type of visit. You can also walk through a hole in the caves to get to an extended part of the beach. There are also a few people doing some cliff jumping on the left side but you need to jump at high tide. There are no kiosks so make sure you bring your ice box full of cold drinks, else you need to walk to the fire station (bombeiros) to get to the nearest place for drinks. When you go, tell Pinhao I miss it.

Just a short walk from Forte da Ponta da Bandeira on the front at Lagos is the small road taking you towards Praia do Pinhao. The views from the path are stunning and though the descent down the steep stone steps is at times demanding it is worth it for the beach itself. Gorgeous, clean beach with natural stone arch to access adjacent area and easy access to the crystal clear sea for young and old alike. Unlike a previous reviewer, I'd say the beach is OK for any sandcastle builders out there - especially at lower tide. One item not mentioned (and having a fossil hunting youngest daughter) there are some amazing fossils around the beach - sea urchins, etc in there.

Not able to compare with Dona Anna or Camilo as not visited those, but this is a fabulous little beach.

It's quite small compared to the other beaches but it's one of the best in my opinion. Not too crowded and protected from the wind.
