Wonderful photo opportunities from the new boardwalk above the cliffs. The weathered West side is by far the best

Beautiful spot that a walkable distance from the centre of Lagos that gets west facing sunset. The boardwalk looks newly built and makes for a lovely stroll up top.

Ponta da Piedade is well worth a visit if you are in the Lagos area of the Algarve. There are meandering pathways all over this rocky promontory and a sturdy cliff top boardwalk which affords far-reaching views along the coastline and out to sea. The...More

Wow, so beautiful and unique. You can climb down the stairs or stay above and they both have spectacular views. There is also a long boardwalk along the top.

We parked at the top of cliff in the car park and wandered along the cliff top and various viewpoints taking loads of photos - then we walked down the stone steps to the small cove and took a boat trip. There were several small...More

Well worth the drive out from the main tourist areas. Lagos itself is worth a quick look but the coastal areas near the lighthouse are a must see.

Definately a must-see. Take a 1-hour boat trip at low tide to see this area south-west of Lagos. I highly recommend using the services of Costa D'Oiro. We had the pleasure to have Bruno as our captain/guide. He maneuvred us in to all the caves....More

The entire Algarve region of southern Portugal is worth anyone's time even if you do not walk and hike the trails along the cliffs and rugged coastline. Be sure to also take a boat tour that goes into the many grottos between Lagos and Portimao....More

This is a beautiful area for walking around and taking pictures. Taking a small boat in and out of small areas along the coast was really fun! We did not have to make an arrangement in advance but our host was not sure if there...More

The walk around the cliffs is easy as there is a boardwalk, go in the evening, lighting is best and you can take in the sunset

I think there is some public transport in the form of a bus, but it should be rare. That time of the year, temperatures are still mild, but you may catch some wind and rain.

I have only walked it, it would be possible to cycle but I think you would spend a lot of time on the roads instead of then cliffs as it can be very narrow on the rocks and not cyclable in some parts at all. The cycling... More

Around Lagos by Public Transport in May (15 Replies)
Hi, We will be visiting Lagos from 17th to 20th May and will be completely dependent on public transport for going around, hence I have quite a few questions regrading this as I am still trying to sort out our trip. I have quite a few confusions, this being our first time in Portugal! Therefore, I will be extremely grateful if any of you could kindly help me regarding these questions (apologies for asking so many questions!) 1) Does getting to the beaches at Praia Dona Ana, Ponta da...More

Hi cubsur, Many thanks for this, only you could have provided such detailed and clear advice and I was really hoping that you would see my post! Following your replies, I have a few more queries, hope you don't mind.. 1) Is it worth going to Cape St.Vincent and does the bus actually get to the tip and viewpoint mentioned in the websites? I can't see the sunset if I depend on the buses to get here from Lagos, right? 2) In general, even if I cover part of my journey by public...More

Lagos or Luz - Ponta da Piedade, Monchique, Sagres, Silves (Mon/Tues/Weds) Drive up coast (all or part way to Lisbon) Vila Nova de Mil Fontes (Thus) Lisbon - drop off car (Fri/Sat/Sun) incl day trip to Sintra OR Head...More

June, it's the popular saints festivities month. Meaning, several locations in Portugal will have s festivity and a local holiday. Lisbon will have the parades on the 12 (sardines, wine and few thousand of people on the streets all night) and the 13 will be a local holiday. If you are in Lagos/Sagres area it doesn't make much sense to drive inland unless there are specific things that you want to do/see. For culture and history much more interesting than the coast, so if you have enough of...More

Boat tours Ponta da Piedade and Benagil Caves in January? (3 Replies)
Hello! I am planning a trip for my family to Portugal the first 12 days of January. I was hoping to go to Algarve and see the beautiful coastline and caves via boat tours but am worried they won't be operating that time of year. I have one son with casts on both arms (!!) so no rough terrain, hiking, biking etc., so if we can't do the boat tours we will just save this region for another trip. Does anyone have any experience with the boat tours in January? Specifically I was hoping to go to...More
