A very pretty little zoo with a good selection of birds from budgies and parrots to huge, rather frightening monsters that looked a bit prehistoric. Meercats, penguins, monkeys, snakes, flamingos, turtles..... No big game - no elephants or lions - but well worth a gentle stroll for half a day. Everything looked well-cared for and clean. A pleasant snack bar. Beside it is O Cangalho, a charming, very Portuguese restaurant with a good menu and great service.

The entrance fee is not exactly cheap. A beautiful zoo, nice design, lots of places to sit and a few exotic specimens...with a snack bar. We couldn't go to the restaurant outside, we were asked to leave quite rudely because they were closing...we weren't even asked, even though we just wanted something to drink.

A great zoo experience for all age groups. A family trip of three generations of which all really enjoyed the zoo and all it has to offer. Perfect for a half days entertainment although there is a swimming pool and sandy beach area should you wish to make a day of it. Our grandchildren did use the pool & beach which was great.
Would recommend this attraction and encourage support.

The zoo was clean, but small, overpriced, old and very bird-focused.
Muddy in cool, rainy weather. The water in the enclosures looked old, some of the monkeys had dull fur. Chimpanzees and penguins were nowhere to be seen (no way to look into the houses and they didn't come out when it rained).
Sheep, cows and donkeys let you pet them. A handful of food from the vending machine costs €1.
The zoo urgently needs more money to renovate the enclosures and repair the toilets, but I won't go in for €19.
Beautiful birds and what can be kept clean without money was decent. I'm still disappointed.

The most awful place we've ever visited. Filthy and in need of repair. In the farm section the chickens were pecking each other raw from boredom and lack of enrichment. It's 90% birds, and they are all demented with lack of space. It's depressing and heartbreaking and I dont recommended supporting it or visiting it in any way.

There are birds with long legs, birds with short legs, birds with long bills and birds with short bills. There are colourful birds and ugly birds, noisy birds and quieter birds. There are birds in the water and birds on the land....oh, and there’s a few other animals too. All in all a bit of a rip off at 100 Euros for 4 adults and 2 kids for what won’t take more than a couple of hours max to walk around.

The swimming pool is great (but deep) ,there was a lot of ice cream stalls & the restaurant food was large but luckily yum. Don’t expect everything you see on the leaflet to be exact because it’s not, the beach looks better on the leaflet. The tortoise near the entrance was walking in circles which might indicate it was stressed. I also saw a man stroke the tortoise which shouldn’t be allowed in my opinion. There are not many obvious signs to stop people doing things that would bother the animals. I did find that lots of the animals were in the same enclosure which was a good thing. Overall it was a pretty good zoo which has pros and cons, I would go again .

Innovative owner, caring and inspired. Animals well cared for and always happy. Grounds inviting and well kept. I have not seen the Penguin pool yet, but know it will be fantastic. Visit all year round, always something to see.

Great for spending a day with the family! There is, right at the entrance, a small artificial beach, with sand and a swimming pool, excellent for taking a dip and sunbathing! The animals seem well cared for and the route is quite pleasant, with a lot to see, although it could be better marked!

The zoo is not well maintained and the animals are all in very small enclosures. I felt depressed walking around looking at all the animals more than anything. I'm sure that kids would enjoy seeing the variety of animals that the zoo does have but overall it appears there is just a lack of funding for the zoo and it's been lost over time.

Would avoid visiting if it was a wet day. Majority of attractions are outside

We're looking to stay in the albufiera area but want to go to the zoo. Is there places where we can get a coach there or a bus as we dont drive?? This is for May time thanks :)
Written January 16, 2019
So sorry..thought I was answering about zoo marine. Forget that about the taxi! Anyway you can the coach from the tour company or the zoo actually run their own buses too.

Is there a bus route to get to the zoo from jardins da rocha?
Written September 21, 2018
Sorry I’m not sure. We usually have a hire car. Your best bet is to check the bus timetables on the Portugal website
