A small but interesting interactive hands-on science museum suitable particularly for families but with a space for temporary exhibitions which can be more demanding. A hands-on aquarium contains marine species from the local reserve (Parque Ria Formosa), and outside there's a great view over the lagoons with a number of explanatory panels. The staff are very knowledgeable, speak superb English... More

I was in Faro to explore the Algarve and met two men at my Hostel who told me about this attraction. It is small, but the staff was very helpful and informative. Many hands on exhibits, some for smaller children all the way up to adults. The exhibits range from an exhibit on the local sea life to an extensive... More

I like a science museum… but not this one. It’s a shed with a tired, tiny greenhouse out the back. The exhibits reminded me of the science museum in London 40 years ago – bits of shaped wood that you could push together to see how plate tectonics works and that sort of thing. It needed a good lick of... More

Amazing to have this small science museum in a small city as faro. It is near ria formosa and the train passes beside the building, on the way there you pass through the volunteer firefighters building that has their trucks parked outside. The science museum is a really nice place to go with children, the staff is really nice and... More

A small but interesting science museum. All hands on. Excellent staff. Descriptions well described in English. The terrasse on the roof is awesome with great views..... would be really good to put a coffee shop up there Spent a morning here with two children 9 and 10. We were lucky to have the whole place to ourselves which meant that... More

After lunch we stumbled upon Faro's little science museum. It was fabulous! We spent 2 hours here and got 1:1 private tour from staff. Never thought i would hold a tarantula ever but did. Staff were amazing and so friendly and informative. Thank you. P.S. I found my sunglasses.... they were in my bag all the time 🙄. Thanks for... More

Although drab on the outside our 7-10 year old were captivated by the science and especially the tarantulas exhibits. Touching recently shed skins as well as a live beast was captivating. All for €20 for a family of 4.

Spent a couple of hours in here with 8 & 10 yr olds. Small centre, but really engaging. The kids loved the spider and scorpion exhibit, but especially the touch pool where the volunteer staff were super friendly and knowledgeable and made all the difference. Well worth a visit.

Family visit with my wife and two children age 6 & 8. €20 euro for family ticket. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, spent over two hours here which is great opportunity to take afternoon out of hot sun. Afterwards we went into old Faro town for lunch which was great

Centro Ciencia Viva do Algarve hosts a temporary exhibition of living spiders and scorpions. This exhibition will be open until 30 September 2016. The entry ticket costs 6 euros and gives you access to the rest of the center also. The staff from Centro Ciencia Viva do Algarve speaks English and is more than willing to answer your questions.
