About
“Know +, Eat well, Walk better” Physics, Geology, Food, Meteorology, Volcanism, are some of the scientific areas that you can get to know better when visiting this exhibition. Come and experience the feeling of an earthquake, see a tornado live, find out what its weight is on other planets, find out how many calories are in a pizza and much more! “Da Ria à Rua” In addition to including several interactive support modules on the theme of Ria Formosa and coastal ecosystems, this exhibition focuses on the “touchpool” where visitors, with the support of trained monitors, can interact with animals that are usually found in the intermareal zone from Ria Formosa, and discover and understand the specifics associated with their life cycle and the way they relate to them and the environment. There is also an aquarium representative of the sub-real environment of Ria Formosa, which will show the Seahorses of this very sensitive environment.

"Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve" is a quite interesting and live museum! It brings freshness and creativity to Faro. Visit its permanent exhibition - "Das Estrelas às Estrelas" ("From the Stars to the Stars", in English), very instructive and designed for kids. it links "galactic stars" to the "starfish" found at neighboring "Parque Natural da Ría Formosa". Three aquariums and interactive spaces complete the scene. Science workshops are available for kids between 5 to 10 years old, and even birthday parties can be held at its premises. If you are staying a few days in Faro and brought your kids, they will certainly enjoy the visit. But for adults, it may be not so interesting. Enjoy!

We were looking for something to do before catching our flight home from Faro and found the museums website. We only had a short time available and wish we had more as we could have easily spent more time there.
It was only 8 euros as the children were free and there was no one else other than staff in the museum was great as it meant we had our own tour guide as well!
Plenty to do for both my 3 year old son and my 37 year old husband whilst the information provided was aimed well for all ages and interests - the bubble screen, water vortex maker and interactive geology sand tray were big hits with them both.
Due to how much time we had we were only able to explore the indoor exhibition although there was an outdoor area with play activities which we could've explored if we had more time.
Next time we are in Faro we will definitely be revisiting the museum!

We had a rainy last day and 2 children to occupy so we used tripadvisor to see what was around and local.

What a fantastic time we had here... 2 hours of interested children for just a few euros!

Really interactive exhibits and thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

Recommended!

It's quite hands on - you can experience an earthquake, create a vortex in water, look at the effect of tide on sand, watch an orrery go round, look at local fish and sea creatures (under supervision you can touch them, but it seems a bit like harassment). It was quite hot and humid inside. For 4 euro it's probably best if you have a child to amuse.

We came here with our 3 year old daughter and had a lovely time! She got to touch the starfish & crabs in the touch pool, feel what an earthquake would feel like, and play with the soft sand in the weather display (which is a really cool display that I can't figure out how it works! There are lights over a tray of soft sand, and you move the sand to create 'mountains, oceans, islands etc' and the lights know what you've made and adjust accordingly... too clever for me!) The staff were also super friendly and patient with us/her; whenever they saw her looking curiously at something they would come over and take the time to explain to her what she was looking at, and helped her to get involved and learn through curiosity, touch, play & exploration.

This is a little faded and some of the exhibits were shut. However, The entrance fee is really low so I thought they were doing well. They have informative English speaking guides who are keen to show off the exhibits which are mostly hands on. This is great for children and also for curious adults. Allow about 2 hours, its fun!

This small centre was full of schoolchildren when we visited and it is an excellent way of teaching science. Many examples of well explained and active models of natural phenomena, earthquakes, tides, astronomy-all of them and many more in this well themed attraction.

A small but interesting interactive hands-on science museum suitable particularly for families but with a space for temporary exhibitions which can be more demanding. A hands-on aquarium contains marine species from the local reserve (Parque Ria Formosa), and outside there's a great view over the lagoons with a number of explanatory panels. The staff are very knowledgeable, speak superb English and are on hand to answer all sorts of questions. An unexpected little gem rated 4 because it is quite small.
