I have visited Faro at least once a year for as long as I can remember, but having found “Faro Free Walking Tours” by searching the internet, decided to book a tour for myself and friends. Booking was very straightforward. Our guide Andre was just delightful, obviously very passionate about the City and really brought it to life with interesting facts and funny anecdotes. He even suggested somewhere for lunch afterwards - The Woods - with spectacular views over the harbour and excellent food. A two hour experience I would recommend to anyone who wants to know more about Faro. I will walk through the streets in future with far more knowledge of its history, as will my friends. Would also just mentioned that we had all planned our “thank you” tip but actually gave more !!!!

We came across Faro Free Walking Tours by accident, during a Google search of things to do during our short city break. Their website stated that, due to covid, they were not running their regular timetable, but to send a message and enquire if any tours would be running. We emailed in, and got a response that same evening from Marcelo, who confirmed that there would be a tour running, conveniently on the afternoon of our first day arriving in Faro. He quickly and easily booked us in.

On the day of the tour, we arrived at the starting location, and gathered with other members of our tour group, as well as Andre, our guide. The tour was exceptional, as it covered the main elements of Faro and what it offers, while giving us cause to go back to some of these locations the next day independently, after Andre had given us an insight into their attraction.

Andre was very informative and engaging, as well as open to answering questions within the group. He made sure that we had standing breaks within the 2 hour tour, giving us an opportunity to soak in the scenes. The tour was greatly enjoyable and was the perfect start to our trip to Faro.

This man was born in Porto and moved at 1 year old boy to Faro were he grew up.
He studied history and culture.
This dude is motivated and fully filling with to many stories about Faro that he hasn't have enough time to get the whole history of Faro done, but he managed to get his work done in a very interested story line even during the pouring rain that day. He kept telling entertaining stories that kept our small group of 3 people (me, my wife and my daughter) closed to the total pictures of the total package of points of interest of this memorial historical city...
Thanks a lot and keep going on with giving the good word of this town....

This tour gives you a good overview of the history of Faro in the context of Portugal's history, explaining, in general, why are things the way they are and why is this city the way it is and then connecting the dots with individual objects. Our guide was Andre, a local who speaks perfect English, knows how to present information in an engaging way and who has a good (at least for my Baltic understanding) sense of humor. Two hours very well spent.

The oranges which abound in the squares and streets of Faro are the bitter variety and though they appear very tempting they are not for eating but are purely for decoration. Just one of the many interesting facets we gleaned from our walking tour of Faro. We spent a couple of informative and entertaining hours around the old town and beyond with Andre as our guide. His English is excellent and he is very clear speaking. His knowledge of the history, architecture and ecology of Faro and Portugal is extensive and he presents it with great enthusiasm.

We spent an hour and a half walking through Faro with Marcelo of FFWT and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Marcelo knowledge and passion for Faro was keenly felt. History, legends, politics, religion and architecture were woven into a presentation of Portugal in general and Faro in particular. Highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed Faro’s free walking tour, with our tour guide Marcelo. Marcelo has explained us a lot about his beautiful and interesting hometown Faro. His style was both intelligent and entertaining, with very good English language proficiency.

Next to the historical information he was also very knowledgeable about the natural and ecological aspects of the Algarve region. He really took the time to answer all the questions we could think of!

I would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to learn more about Faro and the Algarve.

Really enjoyed the tour by Marcelo. He really has a passion for history. The only criticism I would make was that there was a lot of history, particularly at the beginning. Would have preferred more about the current city, or even 20th century history than so much about centuries ago. But thats just personal preference.
A great tour and very well hosted.

We would not have enjoyed the city so much if it wasn't for this tour! Super kind guide, who gave us loads of interesting historical informations. It made this trip really fascinating and make us regret not staying in Faro longer. Definitely recommended

An excellent tour of Faro, it was just what we needed with only 1 day to explore the city. Our tour guide, Rita, was a local to the area and had a good knowledge. She had many interesting stories tell and kept us entertained throughout. We would definitely recommend
