Called the sea gate, or new gate, it is still a rather old entrance (or exit) from the old town. Sadly, like quite a lot of Faro, it's let down by the amount of graffitti. We passed this on our walk around the walls.

This is a lovely historical gateway to the old city of Faro, very photogenic, and full of history, well worth a visit, if your in the area.

Another entrance into the Fort/old town, not as interesting as some of the others, quick photo and move on.

The "Muralhas de Faro" ("The Walls of Faro", in English) were commissioned by old local Governors Yahya ibn Bakr and his son, Bakr ibn Yahya, in the 9th century. Later on, around the 7th century, local fishermen opened a new entrance to the inner city through the Walls . This entrance, known as "Portas do Mar" or "Porta Nova" ("Sea Gate" or "New Gate", in English), is still there! Right in front of it, boats to "Ilha Deserta" depart. A beautiful and romantic gate! Enjoy!

Faro is a small town all the attractions near each other, this is an entrance into the old town near the sea. Nice for a walk, the only thing I noticed there was a lots of graffiti all over Faro, too bad that people destroy the walls of many historic buildings and landmarks.

Originally there were only two gates into the city and when this third gate was added by the fishermen it was called the new gate. Not as ornate or photogenic as the Arco da Vila it leads to the jetty where you can catch the ferry to Ilha Deserta

This was the second gate that we came across during a walk which we took that circled Faro Walls.
Portas do Mar is also known as 'Sea Gate' or 'New Gate' and is simply another entrance to the 'Old Town'.
This one is located at the promenade, and near to the sea.
I quite liked the appearance of this one, and the views both up the peaceful narrow cobbled street, and down looking out to the sea through the narrow arch.

It's another entrance to the old cit, No more no less, again, as the old centre is not that big, a quick visit can easily be integrated.

Portas do Mar is an old entrance from the sea into the old town dating originally from the Moorish period. Next to it is where you can book boat trips through the various kiosks set up there.
