The historic city of Faro was protected from invasions by these walls. Hundreds of years old and impressive to see. There are murals along the walls depicting some of the battles

Magnificent historic walls of the old castle that are well maintained and also offer great views of the Ria Formosa National Park. Lots of information available at various points. Lovely atmospheric old streets to walk along. Wear sensible footwear though because of the cobbled roads.

As we always park close to the Faro wall, it has become our landmark. But, it is so much more. We love walking around, reading the different plaques, walking through the arches and taking in all it has to offer. Let me also say, since...More

The walls, like so many town walls, speak of a bygone age of terrifying insecurity, of dangerous pirates and enemy raids, etc. Parts of the walls contain residences and restaurants that look fascinating. We only had half an hour to kill before we took a...More

The walls are quite intact and impressive in themselves, but more something to walk past and observe than an attraction in themselves.

Although much of the walls have now vanished there are still sufficient left to be impressive. Circling parts of the old town theyare a must see. The areas of grass and gardens around them are kept clean and tidy which is an added advantage. Worth...More

Nice to walk around the walks and take in the history. Takes you through some quaint parts of town. Plaques located at intermittent locations help give a feel of the history of Faro. It is a real shame that Tourist Information does not offer a...More
