What a stunning place this is! I started my hike from the church and worked my way eastwards using the boardwalk. The scenery is just breathtaking! I took my time going down closer to the water by using the carved steps on the rocks (in many places, you have to watch your steps and make sure you put your foot down on rocks that are not slimy). Lots of natural windows facing the ocean ... just spectacular!

By the way, do not attempt to walk down if you are wearing sandals or slippers ... I saw one lady almost fall because she was wearing flimsy sandals. She had to walk barefoot on the rocks because she wanted to go where I went.

Also make it a point to go to A Boneca ... there is a small entrance way under the rock and, again, two naturally formed windows facing the ocean.

Without a doubt, Algarve is a magical place!

A good stroll for early evening to work up an appetite for dinner and watch the sun setting as well as during the day. It's worth going down the stairs at the end of the boardwalk to explore inside 'the doll' and wander among the rocks. As this was out of season the cafe was closed but it must be a super place to sit and enjoy the sunshine and watch the boats coming by to see the caves.

Hi guys

Nice views along the coast and of the limestone cliffs that have been shaped by the ocean.
The Carvoeiro wooden walkways makes this more accessible. You can climb onto and around the cliffs themselves. But it is dangerous.
Regards
Schliek.

We loved climbing around these beautiful formations on the sea. We parked the car in Carvoeiro but there is parking at Algar Seco if you don't want to walk from town.
We walked along the boardwalk and then climbed down into the formations. As shown in the photos, there is also a place where you can walk down steps to get closer to the formations.
It is possible to hike along the coast to other beaches, but it was a hot day so we only got to Algar Seco. We saw it from a boat the prior day and had to return. It is very cool and worth a special trip. Not for people with mobility issues, and you need to have proper footwear.

Lovely place to visit if in the area. 600m boardwalk takes you from Carvoeiro along the cliff top to Algar Seco. You can explore the rock features in the cliffs or just buy a coffee (or meal ) and savour the scenery.

Not listed in many tourist books we found this to be one of the most interesting spots along the coast. On the east side of town follow the signs to Algar Seco. The paths go through the cliffs and you can get some wonderful pictures. Stairs have been carved into the rocks and lead you down to lower sections close to the crashing waves. At times all you can see are the narrow stairs around you- everywhere there is rock. Take each of the paths as the views are quite different. Don't miss it.

Boneca bar has been for the past 12 years a place we go for a treat, spectacular setting, lovely food etc. It I always on our to do list when we have visitors stay with us, and although its nearly an hours drive, it has always been worth it....until yesterday. We took some friends there for lunch, we ordered a jug of white sangria which came out as what I can only describe as fizzy orange, nothing like the delicious jugs we always have had. The whole 4 of us had a sip and all agreed it was like Fanta with a few slices of lemon & orange in it. I spoke to the waiter and said this is not like the usual white sangria we have when we always come here. His reply was I have worked here for 6 years and never seen you before, which in effect was calling me a liar. He went to get it changed, however, it was not much improved but we figured the waiter was not going to appreciate being questioned again, so we left it. We waited a while then eventually had to ask for menus, to be handed them with the comment from the waiter saying ' Here you go'. The restaurant was not exceptionally busy, but the waiter seemed to be completely fed up with having to serve customers and customer service was very low on his agenda.

We ordered our meal, which came, The 2 fish meals were the worse, the tuna was virtually raw, we questioned this twice only to be told it was how it is cooked there and it was cooked properly. Our friend ate less than half of her meal. My husbands choice at Boneca Bar is always the sardines, on this occasion they came without any boiled potatoes, he commented on this, only to be told it doesn't come with boiled potatoes. Previously he has always had potatoes and been offered extra bread with his sardines (Our last visit this year was late June 2013). Needless to say no one bothered with any desserts.

The bill came, the food is never cheap, which is understandable due to the location to the sea and the setting and we have always been more than satisfied as the quality of food, drinks & service has been good. Unfortunately this was full price, even though we had questioned some things. For the very 1st time we did not leave a tip as we felt the service was very poor. I am sorely disappointed.

We didn’t plan on going but our Benagil caves guide said he can’t recommend Algar Seco enough so on our rented car day we went to Carvoeiro first thing.
The cliffs are stunning, a boneca (doll eyes) is gorgeous, there is a really nice cliff jumping spot but we did not have the courage as the water current was very strong that day and we didn’t want to die on a lovely trip :) however a bunch of German tourists jumped from an even higher spot a few meters further and enjoyed it a lot. Inside the cliffs, there is a natural pool which fills with water during high tide. We both swam inside. It’s difficult because the water is constantly pulling and pushing according to the waves, and we both got scratched etc trying to hold onto rocks. But the views were amazing, the pictures are worth it and the water was so clear!!! It looks really shallow on pictures, where I could have fully submerge myself standing, but the water was so clear you could see the sand and rocks so clearly.

Trigger warning though, there are crabs in the pool. They’re more scared of us than we are of them, and they hide quickly when approached. I, however, was unaware of their presence and literally pressed my whole body against a rock for a picture, only to discover that I was MILIMETERS away from HUNDREDS of tiny crabs. Obviously I started screaming like I was being eaten alive, more of a shock than anything else, and started swimming the other way. Well, at least other tourists had a good laugh at me :) and I don’t consider the situation traumatic!

Free parking all around the place, stunning views and bring your swimwear as there is the opportunity to swim in the caves and even try a bit of cliff jumping if you are feeling brave.
We had lunch at the restaurant here which was lovely but a little pricey.

Five minutes walk from Carvoeiro but also plenty of parking if you drive there. Steps down to interesting rock formations where lots are fishing and a few ( crazies?!) jumping off the rocks. Great little cafe shaded by huge sails overlooking the sea. However, we have found that you will be ignored if you just want a drink around lunchtimes. Large groups are immediately attended to. We left after several others arriving after us were served before the waiter even took the order. Not the first time.
