- TheCount69Rochdale, United Kingdom882 contributionsA strip with plenty to chooseI was here on February and even though it was off season there were still quite a few bars open, mainly the smaller ones. Even this time of year there are touts outside trying to coax you in to their bar. Theres the usual drug dealer as with every strip I've been to. Lots of bars and still a good crowd even in winter. Prices vary from one to the other and I visited a few in my 2 nights. The same can be said of the entertainment in each, theres something for everyone, maybe not the elderly as it's a lively placeVisited February 2020Traveled soloWritten March 24, 2020
- acs1984Cockermouth, United Kingdom1,457 contributionsThe StripThe strip is mainly filled with bars and clubs, however there are some small tourist shops and restaurants too. Mainly gear up towards young people, stags and hens. Its quiet during the day but completely the opposite at night, not really suitable for families then. The road is closed during the evening so it becomes pedestrianised.Visited June 2022Written April 7, 2023
- Drum_DaveyGlasgow, United Kingdom242 contributionsIdeal for stag partiesThis strip caters mainly for stag parties for people from the UK. It is a vibrant atmosphere with some reasonably priced drinks. Was staying in a hotel nearby but bear in mind you will be able to hear the music playing until 4amVisited April 2022Traveled with friendsWritten June 5, 2022

- Isaac BBallynahinch, United Kingdom404 contributionsChanged for the worseWe last walked the Strip around 15 years ago, so it was interesting to see what had changed. Back then, there were lots of bars, live music, shops, which was lively all day long. We went along one night around 8pm and it was dead, apart from some people trying to pull us into restaurants. We went back a few nights later around 10pm and there was a lot more life. Dominated by music bars, competing to see who was loudest, it seemed to cater for hen & stag do’s, and there were plenty of them about. - MillieMollieDeeMerseyside, United Kingdom1,390 contributionsDon't believe everything you hear about the Strip! Well worth a visit! The famous Albufeira Strip runs downwards from the Hotel Montechoro, all the way down to the beach , dissected by the main road to Albufeira. It's full of bars and restaurants of all types , catering mainly for English / Irish tourists, along with some shops and a chemist/pharmacy (Farmacia). The "tourist train" starts and finishes half way down the Strip, just past the main crossroads, behind Ancora. Most bars are open fronted , so there's lots of people watching opportunities. There's a mix of karaoke, Sky Sports and live acts / tribute nights. A few touts are around during the day, trying to entice you with free scratch cards. If timeshare is not for you, then give them a wide berth. In the evening it's very lively - people need to be a bit cautious as cars still use the road, although one way systems are in use. There are many good bars on and just situated off the Strip. The bars at the top end of the Strip (near to the Hotel Montechoro) are more family orientated and also enjoy a varied mixture of clientelle. This part of the Strip is much less "manic" as the rest of the Strip - the lower part is VERY popular with the younger generation -, Of course it all comes down to personal taste in the end, but some popular bars are Chor Bar, Sinatra's and the 60's Bar, all at the top end of the Strip. There are many more for people to try, before heading down towards the Ancora mid way down, Liberto's for the younger crowd , and Wild & Co near the (beach) end - with good crowds at Matt's bar mainly watching drinkers taking on the Bucking Bronco. Restaurants on the top part of the Strip are very popular, and not quite so chaotic/ loud as further down towards the beach. There is a vast choice of food available to to suit all tastes and budgets:- English, Portuguese, Chinese, Mexican, American to name a few. A good tip is to try where the locals eat and / or drink. The places they frequent usually provide great service and excellent value for money, plus you have the added bonus of meeting up with some of the most friendly people in Europe.iWritten October 1, 2009

- LindyQManchester, United Kingdom16 contributionsAvoid Second Bar at all costs!I witnessed the most appalling act of violence by bouncers at this bar recently. They were like a pack of animals beating their victims. I dont know what injuries were caused but there was much blood and ambulances were called. I know bouncers have a job to do but this was unecessary gratuitius violence, which, no matter what these people had done was so wrong. Very very frightening.Visited August 2013Traveled with friendsWritten August 6, 2013

The only reason to visit "the Strip" is just to see how Tacky and seedy it is and then you will know not to go back again. I have never liked it and this year with the thugs who caused trouble at the Invasion Portugal event made me dislike it even more-hopefully there will not be a repeat of these wannabe gangsters from the "hood" next year in Albufeira. Most of the shops are a rip off on the Strip and then you have groups of fools all dressed the same on hen and stag parties who seem to think they own Albufeira and who dont give a thought for families with small children..Once to visit here is enough for anyone, twice is a punishment. There are plenty of "nice" places in Albufeira but the Strip is not one of them.

If you are into drinking ,Stag parties ,night clubs then this is the place for you to be in the evenings/night time.
To be fair there is some nice restaurants there, it's just the fact you have to avoid groups of drunk people to get to them.

Oura Strip much more lively than the Montechoro end. Lots of cafes, bars, souvenir shops, and mini markets. Pleasant during the day, busy in the evening. Lots of hen and stag revellers, but we never saw any trouble. It can be noisy, especially when the football is on. We stayed in a villa just off the Strip, and once we closed the door, there was no disturbance.
Bus stop and taxi rank on the main road, so a short walk. The little fun train leaves from Rua Julio Diniz, just off the Strip, outside Candyland, and travels in a circle all day, stopping close to the Old Town, and near the big supermarket and shopping/eating arcade opposite and back to the Strip. 4 euros for an all day ticket is pretty good value, and the train is every 20 mins.

Hi, can anyone tell me if there will be plenty of clubs and bars open in early April? Will it be busy Monday-Thursday or is it better to visit at a weekend? We're looking for a hen party so would like a good atmosphere. Thanks

Hi shed137 I used to go to Portugal every year back in the day when the carousel bar was on the strip and there wasn't stag and hen parties it was good in the old days by local people like you said.
I was just wondering if you knew about when the carousel bar was there and they had two djs on called mark and Ricardo it was owned by a Portuguese family.? And if you knew what happened to them.? Any information would be appreciated thanks.x
