Good to be able to go to mass on Sunday at 10am. Standing room only. Need to go early if you need a seat. Mass in Portuguese.
Difficult to get up to date times of services.
None outside the churches.
Someone said it is obvious on the website.
Not very welcoming for foreigners who just want to attend church.
Need to locate a vigil service for today.
Looks like it could be 5pm or could be 6pm.
Maybe have to go online to view a mass.

but as in many Portuguese Churches, never ostentatious or over the top baroque. Simple but pretty painted ceilings. There are toilets in the church and given public toilets can hardly be found, many thanks to the church for providing the service.

This is the Roman Catholic church in Albufeira (Igreja Matriz de Albufeira). It is a beautiful 19th century house of prayer and a lovely cool refuge on a warm day. The Parish Priest here is a gentleman who understands more English than he actually speaks. I joined him for Mass on Sunday last. He included the English speaking community in that the Gospel and prayer of the faithful were read in both Portugese and English. This church is in the old town up a slight incline. You can't miss it as the pealing bell will call you to prayer. That in itself was a lovely experience on a Sunday morning.

MASSES AT WEEKENDS: Saturday at 6pm; Sunday 11am.

MASSES FOR WEEKDAYS: 5pm on Wednesday; Thursday; Friday.

Don't leave without visiting the Blessed sacrament Chapel which you will find to the right as you look up towards the sanctuary.

Have a blessed visit! Mine was.

This is the church we attend when holidaying in Albuferia. It is always packed to capacity for 11am Sunday morning mass. This year we found that by arriving at 10.45am and heading straight upstairs we got a seat in the gallery - a must in the heat and the fact that it lasts at least an hour. We were caught out on our last Sunday, by the fact mass time changed from 11am to 10am at the start of July. I had a wander around the church after people left and it is very pretty, especially the separate little chapel area to the right of the altar.

This is an old world church atop the hills surrounding Albufeira. We attended the 11oc Sunday Mass (not 10oc as our resort had told us). The church was packed in advance of the Mass. The congregational singing was impressive and helped our participation. The Mass is of course in Portuguese, but the Gospel and some prayers are read in English also. The homily lasted about twenty minutes, which isn't much fun when you have no idea what is being said. Overall the Mass lasted more than an hour. The church itself is conducive to prayer.

We enjoyed quite a few days in the old town. Lots of shops and bars to visit. We enjoyed a meal at THE CENTRAL PLANET a large bar just at the start of the old town. We had 2 large beers and 2 mixed Kebabs chips and salad ( the kebabs cont beef and pork peppers and onions ) 25 Euros and it was good and hot. Lovely fleecy blancets to wrap around you if it gets chilly and the owners are really nice. The town is a maze of winding streets and eventual;ly lead to the beach which is lovely and surrounded by bars and music. Well wortha visit.

While I was in Albufeira it was The Festa of Sao Vincente the Patron Saint of Albufeira who was burned at the stake in Japan along with his followers for thier Christian beliefs.I am not of the Catholic faith, but I regularly go to this Church. It is so peaceful and relaxing to go and sit through the Service. This was a special service tho. The Church was beautifully decorated and after the Srvice, There was a procession thro the streets of Albufeira taking out the Statue of Vincente. with all of the congregation following singing.I am so glad that the people of Albufeira keep up these lovely traditions, which are held throught the Year.It really adds something to your Holiday

In spite of the fact that the Mass was almost all in Portuguese, we were moved by the full church, the congregational singing and the attention to detail. At 1 hour 25 minutes, it was somewhat longer than we are used to on a normal Sunday.
