Lovely beach but needs a clean up
Lovely place to visit. The old town is full of restaurants and shops with plenty foe everyone. The beach was lovely but it does need a bit of a clean up. I wish it was smoke free as the amount of cigarette butts in the sand was crazy. My 4 year old just keep scoping them up while she was playing. I know it's not everyone's fault but there were alot of bottles and even broken glass. Those running the sun loungers should be doing a thorough clean up but I did see them ignore it as well as the people leaving it behind. Despite that its a lovely beach to stay on.

Fisherman’s beach, the main beach of the old town
Decent area of fine sand located at the bottom of the escalators from the elevated view point. It combines with the beach next to it, Praia de Peneco to form the main beach area for the Old Town. Several sun bed rental areas along its length and if walk to the far end you can always take the Elevator do Peneco back up to the Old Town itself.

    Love this beach
Lovely, large clean beach close to Albufeira old town where you will find plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. There were no sun lounges out or any life guards on duty which would have been good has due to it being breezy the waves at times were a bit high. I usually love swimming in the sea here but only went swimming once during our 11 night stay and I thought I was a good swimmer but I struggled getting out as the waves were knocking me off my feet and going over my head and the previous wave was dragging me back under all at the same time which was very scary and by the time I managed to get out it took me a while to get my breath back, despite that it is still my favourite beach on the Algarve and will be back hopefully soon.

This has all the makings of a lovely beach, clear water, showers, next to a nice little town, lifeguards etc, but it was just so dirty. Thousands of those little polystyrene balls from packing materials, plasters, ice cream wrappers. It was a bit gross. I appreciate on the shoreline it gets washed up and it's not necessarily the people who've used the beach who are responsible but it needs clearing up regardless and people need to take better care of the seas.

Visited with our two boys (11 and 13) and found the place to be great. Accessible from the old town, so has lots of nearby facilities. Beach has lots going on and plenty of space to play. Beach was clean and the water was beautiful. We hired a couple of loungers for the day and enjoyed every minute. Visited again later in the week and tried parasailing, which the kids loved! Would recommend a visit.

Quite possibly the most beautiful beach in the Algarve. Not overcrowded at all. The escalator is nice but there is also an elevator and a winding stairway off the cliffside. Lovely warm soft sand, very clean with no litter blowing about. Loads of loungers with umbrellas. There is a nice restaraunt right on the beach and many cafes, bars and places to drink and eat along the whole beach. You pass a while day at this beach in what will feel like a few short hours. I cant wait to go back again, the Algarve is so beautiful.

This beach is situated not far from the old town. The sand is mostly soft but can be coarse in places. It was mainly clean but there were the odd bits of rubbish. Toilets are available nearly and it is well situated for cafes and bars. Watersports and pedalos are available.

Great beach by the ocean. One of the best beach in Portugal . Full of life and often very busy. Lots of space, umbrellas and sunbeds. Also nice for evening walks and watching the sunset. Excellent.

The beach is nice but the water is always cold and this year was freezing cold.
I preferred when i been in september/October then in July.
But apart of that everything else is perfect.

Came to Albufeira for a weekend of beach, and this is the beach to be at. It borders the old town, so it is also the easiest to get to. I was there on a saturday in July and it was packed, but that is to be expected. It is not your secluded beach, but if you want to be on a great beach in the center of it all this is it. The water was clear, and crisp but give it time and you can just float endlessly. There are sun beds available at numerous points on the beach,or you can buy your own parasol at one of the many stores before the beach (expect to pay 9 euros for a cheap one). There are restaurants bordering the beach, or you can just duck in to the old town as I did grab a coffee/snack and head back. It borders Praia de Peneco (and really together they are one big long beach). At night, I walked it during the sunset, it took 30 minutes 1 way and I had it mostly to myself. There are showers and washrooms near the central plaza bordering the beach (and Peneco has showers and washrooms too by the elevator, which was not working when I went but the stairs worked fine)

This is potentially a great beach with very good amenities. However, a few points let it down badly.

There is a really useful double escalator at the east end of the beach to transfer us tourists up and down to the beach.

There’s a nice open area at the bottom undergoing further development and a working water fountain. I found several water fountains around Albufeira but the only working ones at Praia dos Pescadores. There’s also a toilet block that was clean and well maintained. Also had more working fountains inside.

Sadly, the part of the beach with the rental sun beds and parasols is where it all goes wrong.

The people charging for usage are very reluctant to rent a single person a single Sunbed.

The first time I visited I was told outright the price was €15. Luckily some other English-speaking persons nearby heard my complaint about the price and told me that was for two beds and parasol. I think the vendors must work on commission.

The second time I visited I had to insist I was only paying for one sun bed.

The third time I had already been on the bed for about an hour, only using one bed, parasol not even untied and wrapped round the post, I still had to insist I was only paying for one bed.

The sand in the paying area is the worst kept I’ve ever seen. In other places the sand is cleaned and put straight EVERY morning. At Praia dos Pescadores the beach is a mixture of sand, cigarette ends, can tops, pieces of half eaten food, used condoms, fruit from ‘cocktails’ et al. There are no ash trays or rubbish bins in the paying area.

What could be an idyllic bask in the sun is constantly interrupted by someone trying to sell you food, drink, sun glasses, watches….

I do hope the town council can bring some pressure to bear on the staff running the beaches and the local police to remove the hawkers.

My tip: You might have a hard time getting a pay-out on your health insurance buying consumables from beach hawkers. Something about you not taking due care of what you consumed….
