This has to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Absolutely spectacular views. The cliffs and ocean, the sandy beaches and the extraordinary vegetation take your breath away. Choose a windy day and the surf will thrill you. A must see!

We visited the Lands end of Portugal. It was about 40 minutes from Alvor by car. Bear in mind that all that is here are cliffs birds a lighthouse and a small cafe. (with free WIFI). There is a museum in the lighthouse and two shops. For some strange reason you also have to pay 50 cents to use the toilet.

Outside there is carparking but this is haphazzard at best. Also there are some stalls along the road side we bought some of the items all very good quality and not expensive much cheaper than the tourist shops at other locations.

Wildlife abounds around here saw plenty of wild birds and even some snakes on the road.

Only down side was manky dogs just running about.

Watch the cliff edges with kids its a long way down

At present I am living in Barao de Sao Miguel and every day I walk in the area with my dogs. At the Costa Vicentina you can look around and see 360 degrees of nature with villages tucked away on the hill-sides. There are countless trails you can walk, you can admire the wild flowers and feel that you are looking up into a bright blue bowl.
There are beautiful beaches between rocky coves, Salema, Cabanas, Figuera and Boca do Rio. Lagos isn't far away if you feel like spending a day in town. and although the national park near Barao de Sao Joao isn't technically on the Costa Vicentina, it is well worth a visit. You can read poems by Portuguese poets engraved in the rocky edges along the paths. I have had many beautiful experiences in this part of the Algarve.

Rota Vicentina is a network of walking trails in Sw Portugal, totalling 400 km to walk, along the most beautiful and best preserved coastline of Southern Europe. Comprising the Historical Way, the Fishermen’s Trail and several Circular Routes, proposes a unique experience of two worlds, between a living and authentic rural culture and a surprisingly wild coastline – fully within Sw Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park.
The route is fully marked in both directions, and can be travelled independently and in total security, preferably from September till June. The sections in which is divided are mere suggestions and can be shortened or extended according to your preferences or the location of your accommodation.
In February 2016, the Historical Way of the Rota Vicentina has been certified by the European wide label “Leading Quality Trails – Best of Europe”, a certification from ERA – European Ramblers Association – joining the exclusive group of the best walking destinations in Europe.

We went to the far top of Portugal, where you can enjoy breathtaking views, visit the natural park and visit the castle. You have to pay to access but you can have a nice walk along the path and enjoy spotting different bird types, see the huge waves splashing onto the rocks, see the different types of vegetation and to much more.

This national park is one of the most stunning in Portugal. Dramatic rocky coastlines interspersed with sandy beaches, it is remote and very beautiful. No overnight camping allowed. Best seen on a guided tour as they can take you to the best viewpoints of the area.
