There arches are found mainly in Giraldo Square and in a couple of streets leading off it. The covered walkways under them are home to a range of shops, banks and cafés. They must offer good shelter during the wet winter season. In Medieval times, before modern sanitation, it would have allowed pedestrians to walk in the street with out fear of being showered by the human waste thrown from the upstairs windows.

If you visit the center (Praca Geralda) of the town, you will see them. Underneath are alined many shops. So stroll around and enjoy the walking and the shadow on a hot day.

These arches under the buildings in the square are colourful but not really an attraction. You see them because everyone goes to the main square

You need to stand in the square, or sit and have a drink in the centre. Whilst there look at the buildings on the RHS as you look up the square and you will notice that the arches are of different heights ans shapes, but in a pattern. Ask the tourist office to explain the history.

You will find many shops and restaurants under the archways. They are located all along one side of the plaza.

Nice spot to take a stroll with many coffee and souvenir shops to visit and many seating options (inside and out) if you decide it's time to take a break and enjoy a coffee, located on one side of the town square in historic Evora.

The arcades comprise one side of the square. The architecture is interesting. There are plenty of shops within the arches.

Lining one side of the Giraldo Square are the medieval stone arches and arcade. They are a great reminder of the history of the square and importance of Evora over the centuries.
