About
The collections of the Museum of Evora consist of about 20 thousand pieces, which highlight the collections of Painting, Sculpture and Archaeology. Besides the aesthetic value and historical importance of many works, the only condition is the panorama of museums in Portugal, the fact that its core come from an eighteenth-century collection of great diversity and inclusiveness, organized by Frei Manuel of the Upper Room, Archbishop of Evora. It is in the organization of the collections system, in order to articulate all fields of knowledge, which expresses the thinking Library-Museum and its educational function in the second half of the eighteenth century in Portugal. This initial condition and this universalistic core also part of the collections of Numismatic unfortunately looted during the French invasions, the collections of drawings and prints, and the core of Naturalia, where they meet several specimens of Natural Sciences. The extinction of the religious orders contributed significantly to extend the estate, benefiting from the collections of Painting and Sculpture, and Decorative Arts with the constitution of several nuclei important as jewelery, ceramics, furniture and textiles. Conducting numerous archaeological excavations during the twentieth century, especially on the Prehistory and Roman times, has enriched the Museum's collection, deepening the relationship with the history of the city and the region.

There are thousands of years of human history in this museum. The museum is small and not overwhelming. Worth a visit.

The museum traces the history of Evora and surrounding areas from prehistoric times. The collections include Roman sculpture, medieval tombstones and artefacts from excavations of the various megalithic monuments in the area. The art gallery includes a lovely Flemish altarpiece, Portuguese Renaissance paintings and 17th and 18th century European paintings. Our visit was enhanced by the excellent free audio guide. Well worth a visit - we spent a few hours there.

The Museu de Evora is housed in a lovely building which was renovated in 2009. This museum is one of the most impressive in Portugal due to its excellent collection of paintings & Roman statues & artifacts. It’s definitely worth visiting to see some of the exhibitions.

Evora Museum is beautifully located and has a variety of collections, including Roman tools, artefacts and memorial stones, medieval statues and tombs and paintings, mostly from the golden age of Portugal. Audio guide is free and since the entrance fee is quite low for the amount of time you can spend in the museum, it's a recommendation when i Evora.

The day we visited, there were many art students sketching in all parts of the museum. They did manage to fill most of the available seats. Inside a 16th century archbishop's palace, the interior of the museum is very sleek and modern. Most of the art we saw was religious. Archeology and Roman sculpture are also prevalent. We chose not to use the free audio guide but perhaps we would have been better off with it.

A wide-ranging collection of objects from the region. Stand-outs are the Flemish paintings and the Roman archeology. Lots of church stuff, furniture, art, etc.

The information on the artifacts was pretty good. It wasn't a huge collection and there wasn't a lot of information on display, but it's a nice visit.

Buenos días, próximamente queremos visitar Evora, mi gran duda es el tema del aparcamiento.
Podrías decirme donde se puede dejar el coche para poder visitar Evora.
Hay aparcamientos por el centro?
Gracias
