Very well informed staff in the Alentejo wine office near the theatre were helpful about suggesting different wineries to visit and knowledgeable about even the obscure one we had found on the net. Free wine tasting and plenty of publicity material available in a beautiful room that showed its origins as part of a former convent.

Thus wine info center is in the middle of town right by the large underground parking garage. There is a nice exhibit about the various grapes grown as well as the different DOC regions.

To get to taste 5 to 6 different wines. They rotate the wines weekly and there is a nice selection of white, rose and red.

If you like what you taste, you can also buy a couple bottles right there.

A good spot to be introduced to the huge variety of wines and producers in the region.

Quite simply GO and visit. We had a tour and wine tasting experience followed by a lunch with the menu and matching wines chosen by the chef. From start to finish this was a truly memorable visit. The staff were well versed and could not do enough to help. Well done to all concerned.

We were able to taste 6 different local wines for free. There are also wines for sale here and the prices are very reasonable. The staff member kindly chilled our wine for us, and we picked it up later.

You can try 6 wines, there is a small exhibition on Alentejan grapes and wines, and you can buy the wines at a really good price. The man attending us found a great way to occupy our kids while we tasted the wines. The visit won't last more than 30-40 minutes, it isn't a professional wine tasting session, but its a great way to try some wine and take a break from sightseeing.

As wine enthusiasts from New Zealand we were pleasantly surprised when the information centre at Evora sent us to the 'root of wine' which is an information centre about the wines of Alentejo ( there was no restaurant we could see). The concept and information available and the wine tasting was superb, but the woman manning the centre was not interested in us and appeared distracted by other visitors she knew and phone calls. A pity as we were keen to find out more about the wines and what wineries to visit. Definitely worth going to and we hope you have better service than we did.

we visited the Herdade da Cartuxa which is 5 minutes from Albergaria do Calvario! stunning and a must to visit...you will walk along the vineyard and the wines are excellent! Herdade do esporao just outside Reuengos do monsaraz is another beautiful experience. Superb wines! Herdade da Malhadinha is another treat....

Start your wine tourism of the Alentejo here. Good to learn about the region, soil, and its grape varieties, do some tasting, get a map, as well as assistance booking any wine tours and tastings. Bummed that the bottles with aromas were all totally empty though. That was disappointing. Employee was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. Well worth stopping by!
