Fort Aubin and its amazing history.
Nov 2021
Thanks to Fenton Wiffen, our English speaking friendly guide, we had a great tour of the Fort Aubin, above and under the ground. Also it is interesting to visit the museum before entering the Fort.

A great Belgium WW2 fort
Oct 2019
A great place to visit with lots to see and do. Allow a couple of hours to see all there is to see. You will need to be reasonably fit as there are stairs inside you will need to descend / climb but well worth the visit. The guides are volunteers but are very informative. Don't forget to visit the small museum and on route take a look at the anti tank wall on the right hand side that still bears the scars of the battle fought in 1940.

Forts and bridges

Fenton was a fantastic host. Very knowledgeable and took us to all parts of the fort. You do need to be reasonably fit if you want to climb the ladders for the gun turrets etc. But plenty to see and learn regardless. Very good value all round.

Fort almost forgotten by history
Oct 2019 • Friends
Splendid tour of this fascinating WWII fort, with its endless-seeming stairwells, corridors and fortifications.
Fenton, our guide, was full of enthusiam and knowledge.
A must visit for anyone interested in European history of the 20th century. The engineering of the ventilation and cupolas will alone is worth the visit.
Try to visit Fort Tancremont afterwards as you will see a more preserved (if slightly less atmospheric), installation.

A unique experience for WW2 history enthusiasts
Jul 2018 • Friends
I visited the fort with a group of friends; we had what amounted to a private tour with our guide Fenton and his able assistant, Kevin. The history of the fort is unique; arguably it played a critical role in keeping a huge number of German soldiers and artillery etc from being deployed against the British withdrawal and is worth a visit its to hear that part of its story.
Other reviewers have mentioned its role later in the war as a test site for secret weapons, due to its almost impregnable construction.
The human side of the war is also present, with many individual features and background stories supplied by the fantastic guides.
It’s not as complete as other forts, but is very atmospheric...the bullet holes in the entrance gates, the hand painted wall decor and the story of some very brave men, both Belgian and German.
Well worth a visit.

Fortress with a very interesting history
Jul 2017 • Family
If you are interested in world war two, this fortress is definitely not to be missed! Aubin Neufchateau might not have the fame of Eben-Emael but that doesn't mean this fortress is not worth a visit. Every third weekend of the month the fortress is opened for individual visitors without reservations. We took the Dutch guided tour and sadly were dissapointed by the quality of the tour. However seeing the fortress from the inside and seeing the damage done by the Röchling projectiles certainly was worth it. It is very cold and wet inside, so I'd recommend visitors taking an extra jacket and wearing good walking shoes.

An excellent introduction to Belgian inter war fortresses.
Jun 2017 • Friends
Having recently returned from a visit to a series of fortresses in Belgium and France I wholeheartedly concur with the comments previous visitors have left below. While there are bigger forts to be seen and no one could fail to be impressed by the military engineering that went into Eben-Emael for example, this latter fort is so huge that a brief visit of a few hours would scarcely do it justice. Fort d'Aubin on the other hand is much more compact, one can easily walk around its perimeter and see at a glance the problems faced by attackers and defenders alike. We were fortunate to have Fenton Wiffen as our guide both to the fort and the associated museum and his knowledge was invaluable as we gained an understanding of the forts layout and its heroic defence once war had broken out. Visitors such as myself owe a debt of gratitude to Fenton and his colleagues who so generously give of their time and effort to preserve these forts for future generations - long may it continue!
