Great location, local beer but don't come hungry
Jul 2016
A truly odd experience. At the end of a long day of touring WWI battlefields I wanted a Belgian beer and some pub grub. The very pleasant waitress knew about the same amount of English as I speak Flemish (not so much). I had some lovely beer and was waiting for my order of Belgian sausage and chips (expecting pomme frits) and we got what I would call "Slim Jims" and a bag of potato chips (crisps for British readers). I was so hungry I ate the crap anyway and still enjoyed the beautiful pub within view of the Ramparts Cemetery and the Lille Gate.

Local pub but the former WW1 collection and the previous inkeeper have left.....
Sep 2015 • Solo
Just a local Ieper/Ypres pub. Selling good beers, value for money. The former innkeepers ( fillip unfortunately past away ) and his spouse sold the WW1 collection and left the Inn. New innkeepers and no more real links with WW1. Many pilgrims went to see the collection, unfortunately the whole collection was sold and moved to a collector in the UK. Business done. Unless you want to go for a good beer and enjoy a good local Flemish pub, the well known WW1 collection is no more !! With all respect for the actual innkeeper, but if you are looking for the WW1 miltary collection, the times of Filip and his spouse are Ypres history...... Now it is still a good stop for refreshment during your ramparts walk, very near to the Ramparts British military cemetery.

A real locals' pub
Dec 2014 • Couples
A world away from the touristy places on the main square, this is a proper Belgian pub. Great choice of beers with friendly service - prices also less expensive than in the centre. Unless you are staying nearby you're unlikely to walk past it, so it's worth stopping off here when you come to the Rijsel (Lille) gate on the ramparts walk.

Cracking Belguim Pub
Nov 2014 • Couples
This Pub is next to the Ramparts Museum, a true Pub, serving a large range of beers in bottles and on tap. A friendly and helpful landlady who welcomes you and advises you on the beers on offer. Don't expect food it's not available - but if you want to experience a real Belgium Pub this is the place to go.
On my visit they were selling a dark beer at 6% called Remembrance Ale, served in a Stone Stein with a Poppy on it. You are able to buy the Stein for 8Euro.
