We arrived in Ypres at 11.15 am, too late for the morning tour and having to be back on the bus to Zeebrugge by 4pm we would not have time to complete the afternoon scheduled tour. We went to the bookshop, explained our limitations and Steve made a call to Kim who was able to accommodate our times. I'm not sure they can do this all the time but so appreciated their flexibility. What a fantastic guide Kim is. She really brought to life the experiences and horrors of the war, explaining the history in a chronological order, pointing out geographical vantages and giving examples of individuals which personally made me unexpectedly emotional. Having our 14 and 13 year old sons with us she was able to engage them in the stories of how boys of their age had signed up, how they were made to feel excited at the prospect and the feelings of doom after the war lasted so long. We visited Essex Farm, the Yorkshire trench, the german cemetary, the Canadian memorial, a farm with a varying display of bombs, rifles etc found whilst farming and Tyne Cot Cemetery. Kim gave us so much information, answered all our questions and gave us time to wander on our own as well. So personable that she felt like a friend by the end of the tour. Could not recommend Kim and Steve highly enough. Thank you. Donna, Banks, Marcos and Tobias (Bishop Family)

Thanks for the wonderful review Donna. Much appreciated. I am proud of the quality of my guides. They are all top notch. Not sure why I am identified as Wander1732... Not my idea but couldn't change it. Steve

We got a lovely tour by English speaking guide Kim: she has a very personal and vivid way of telling the horrors of World War I in that she explains everything very tangible and can get across the emotiuons that must have prevailed for these soldiers. We were a group that did not have special affinity with the subject, but her way of guiding us certainly stirred our attention. Premium guide!

A piece of history catered to all commonwealth countries. We visited battlefields, memorials and cemeteries learning about the western front and the battles that took place on the ground we were standing on. Great tour!

We only had a day for sightseeing and Salient provided us 2 half day tours which covered everything we wanted to see. Being Kiwis the NZ section at Tyne Cot was important in the morning then in the afternoon we went to Hill 60, Kim also showed us the Caterpillar, the crater left by the explosion, amazing. The young men in WWI were so brave, we shall alway remember them.

We booked into the North Salient Tour last week - it turned out to be the best thing we did on our trip to Ypres. 40 Euros pp I think was excellent value. My dad has limited mobility and we were concerned before the trip if he would struggle. The company were used to visitors such as this and were well equipped with fold out chairs in the van which my dad could use if needed. There were lots of places to stop and sit on the tour in the end so these weren't actually needed. The tour itself was an excellent introduction to the major sites including British, German and Canadian memorials. We stopped at Essex Farm & John McCrae site, The German Langemark cemetery, The Brooding Soldier, Tyne Cot and drove through Passchendaele and past several other memorials. Roger has excellent knowledge & provided a first class tour guide service. I wish we had had more time to do the other tours - we will certainly be back and can't recommend this tour and guide enough.
