The first gothic Saint Martin's church, was burned down after the battle of Rozenbeke. This church was located at the place where a Roman church once stood (built in 650). The second church was built between 1390 and 1466, some remnants of which were incorporated in the present day church and remain visible. In 1585, the famous Sacramental tower was constructed in the choir. The current belltower dates from the 19th century, a rebuilding after a fire in 1862 ruined the choir and major parts of the roof and tower.

Amongst the artworks, old works of Gaspar de Crayer can be seen. The organ, dating to 1888, is a major work of Pierre Schyven.

Best experienze, highly recommended

This grand piece of architecture goes back centuries having been added to over may periods. The stained glass windows which look more recent were possible replacements for war damage to the originals but have been done very tastefully. The decorations are simple but elegant and the building has a very pleasant ambience. Well worth a visit.

Although a beautiful church it seems to be transformed into a tourist attraction rather than a house of spirit. Holy water is missing. The original benches replaced by IKEA like chairs. Statues and other art is stunning. Still a nice and quiet place in a busy town.

This church sits just behind one corner of the Grote Markt. It is architecturally complex and bears a close examination. The interior is ornate with a spectacular pulpit. When we passed it a second time, the organist was rehearsing and went in a second time to listen - he was very good.
Definitely one of the more beautiful churches I've seen.

Beautiful church with the light entering at different angles through the amazing stained glass windows to give enlightening photo opportunity.
The four screen video of the crucifixion of Christ is Mesmerising, a masterpiece. A must visit.

Nice building, the church has different styles from gothic to baroque inserts. If you walk by, it is worth a 5 minutes visit. The square around the church is an interesting spot of Kortrijk.
