The Centraal Station in Amsterdam is more architecturally old school, but Bruges's station is very functional and it is a short 15-minute walk from the historic center of town. Don't bother to get a taxi. You can walk it through the park if you don't mind the cobblestones.

I’ve found Belgian national railways to be excellent (unlike the dreadful fragmented rubbish we suffer in the UK) Brugge was like the other stations: helpful smart staff, lots of clear information, easy to use ticket machines, lots of cafes/bars.

We took a commuter train from Ghent. Nice, swift, and efficient. Got to the station in Bruges and everything was nicely laid out for us. Lots of people there but it wasn't difficut to find what we needed, namely the right exit. Nect morning, which started in the parking lot on the other side of the station. for a bus pick up, was easy, too. No problems at all. The location turned out to be good, too. Just a kilometre walk, across parkland, to the historic centre of Bruges. Any closer and arriving would not have been such an event. Nice early evening stroll.. Maps avaialble at our hotel but not, as far as we could tell, at the station itself. Too bad.
