About
Travel back in time to the Middle Ages! The Historium – Bruges’ most visited attraction – lets you step back in time. You can see how lively Bruges was during the Golden Age in various ways. In the Historium Story you follow the love story of Jacob, Jan van Eyck’s apprentice, as you wander through this spectacular attraction with film, backdrops and special effects. In the Historium Exhibition you will find additional information about Medieval Bruges or you can get started on the Family Trail. Go back to the year 1435 in the Historium Virtual Reality and sail virtually into the port of Bruges! You will see how the Waterhalle and Belfort tower were in the past and can fly from the Market Square to the former St. Donatian’s Cathedral. NEW: you can now climb the Historium Tower for an impressive 360° view of the Market Square and the Belfry. The activities are available in 10 different languages. The historium museum is an interesting way of learning some of the history of Brugge. You are taken on an audio Tour ( Multiple languages ) as a group through rooms where a story unfolds about the old 14th century Brugge . Mixed with scents and images it is fun for the hole family . After you can go around in some separate rooms and find out even more on your own . Don't forget to go down to the 1st floor to the Duvelorium with a balcony to the town square and try a Duvel beer or any other suggestion or coffee. The VR trip is also totaly worth getting in the price . It's so fun .

We visited Bruges to see the Christmas markets but so many other historical sites to see. This tower on the corner of the main market square was well worth a climb up numerous steps, bit of a wait as only room on stairs for few people to pass. The view over the town is then fantastic. The journey through history by all modern techniques gave an interesting insight into life in Bruges, museums at their best being innovative.

After strolling through the Market Square you can step inside the nearby Historium.
This beautiful building is home to a special 8 minute virtual reality experience that will take you back in time to medieval Bruges.
The museum is a sequence of rooms with a story to follow - there are projections, smells of things like old firewood, animatronics, dramatic music & special effects.
After time travelling to medieval Bruges, you can step outside to the Historium's terrace which will give you a fantastic view over the Market Square.

Really good audio visual "museum". You walk around a series of rooms with a headset, and are told a story of a young couple in period Bruges, as you enter each setting there's some kind of film, or moving set in some cases, which really brought Old Bruges to life. Have a look at their website for more info, but it is worth a visit, especially as it gets you free use of their toilets for a day, which can be handy in public-loo lacking Bruges. You can pay extra for some kind of virtual reality thing in a room downstairs, but the standard attraction is good enough without it.

We visited this place 2 weeks ago (October 2021). If you want to have virtual tour, you need to pay the ticket. They have beer party in the first floor and you can enter there for free.
They provide stand frame for the visitors to take a picture. The decorations for Halloween is great and interesting.
You must wear a mask before entering to the property. They provide hand sanitizer for the visitors to clean their hands.

When I mean early between 10 -12 as from what I have just experienced Brugge doesn't stir itself until the afternoon. God send if, like me, like to visit attractions without struggling through crowds.
Had the place to myself. The reception staff were very cheerful and helpful recognising I have a small limp and warning me of the number of stairs.
Imaginative way of telling the history of Brugges through audio, film and animontranic set pieces.

The way this museum guides the guest with audio through the rooms is very nice. We thought it was unique, and less boring than just reading signs. My daughter (10y) enjoyed it a lot.
Would defenitely recommend with kids/teenagers.

My husband and I had one full day in Bruges. We did a free walking tour followed by Historium Brugge Story (not the virtual tour or the tower). It was really well done. We have travelled a lot and my husband is a bit of a history hound. We found the historium well presented and extremely interesting. If you want a good overview of the history of Bruges, visit the historium. If you want something with more detail where you can ask questions, we suggest the historic walking tours.

This place was spoilt by the number of school parties visiting at the same time. Interesting but too much noise and too many young people blocking the stairs, corridor and toilets. Not fun if you are adults without kids in tow.

What a great couple of hours that provided entertainment for the whole family. We opted for a ticket with a beer included which we had sat on the balcony overlooking the main square. The VR tour is brilliant and although not cutting edge technology it provided a great insight into how things used to be.

Hello. Does anyone know the story about “Anna the Lady in Red”? I see her face around town and also picked up a souvenir coin with her image on it but can’t seem to find anything online about her? Would be cool to know who she is ? Thanks!

Hey NoleNation. Anna is the heroine in our Historium Story.
We are situated on the Market Square in Medieval Bruges. Come check it out!
Hi, I want to find out about a distant relative of mine, Zeger Jansseune, who is mentioned in the Jaer-boecken der stad Brugge, behelsende de gedenckweerdigste ..., Volume 1 in 1325. Can you please give me the best contact to carry out my investigations?

Like the other answers I'm afraid I do not know. i would start by making contact with the local government or authority for Bruges. I'm sure they will have an online presence, happy hunting, Regards, Roy Howard
Hi, are you dog friendly? We have a small, well behaved dog and would like to visit you.

hallo mijn vraag is Boo!
Vriendelijke groeten,
het Historium Team

Es necesario comprar los tickets anticipadamente?
Historium

Hello,
You can buy your tickets at the ticketdesk in the Historium, you don’t need to buy them in advance. If you want to join the Dark City Walk at 18h, you need to confirm that at the ticketdesk before 16h30. Have a nice visit!

Hi, we are going on a single day tour on 2nd July to Bruges from Amsterdam by own car. We have an itinerary but we would like to know from you as to how to go about after parking the car. We have time till around 9pm; from Bruges we will be going to Brussels. We want to travel on our own - by train, bus, tram, boat or walk. What are all the places we can see? What is there to see in Historium Bruges?

Siento no poder ser categórico en mi respuesta, yo fui incapaz de encontrarlas en español, como tengo un hijo residente en Bruselas, y pienso volver en breve, procuraré encontrarlas la próxima vez porque la exposición me pareció interesante.
