This square is one of those that you walk around the corner and vocally say "Wow!". I visited just after Christmas so the big tree and lights were still there and it really did add to the atmosphere. The intricacy of the buildings is unreal. And definitely worth a visit to the Basilica!

Though not as big as the Markt Square, the Burg Square has been pivotal in shaping the history of Bruges over the centuries. The Gothic-style Stadhuis (City Hall), which has been the centre of power of the city for centuries, dominates the square. The other prominent buildings flanking the City Hall are the Basilica of the Holy Blood and the Bruges Vrije manor. This is a less crowded plaza to chill out and to appreciate the history of the city. As they say, if Markt is the heart of Bruges, then Burg is the soul.

I just happened to be walking towards Burg square, without knowing in particular that I was going in that direction. When I arrived in the square, I found a pipes and drums band rehearsing for an upcoming performance. I really appreciated the opportunity to hear some amazing, moving music. So, 5 stars!

It is a large square that has the ability to gather various points of interest in Bruges within its perimeter. Here you can find the Church of the Blood, the City Hall and the Courthouse, all with different artistic styles. Nice to have a few minutes of relaxation given the presence of commercial activities.

I visited during the Christmas time and it was very pretty. Also, you can visit the Basilica of Holy Blood where you can see blood of Christ in a vial, brought during the time of Crusades. Luckily, I got to see it as the archbishop was on the round, showing everyone the vial, during the visit and luckily I was there. The entrance is free though

In contrast to the Markt's grandeur and opulence, the Brug is more solemn and tranquil (relatively). Surrounded by the Stadhuis and Holy Blood church, it is the stately corner of the Belgian city. Do spend some time to appreciate the beauty of the buildings.

You don't know where to look. Each building is more beautiful than the last. When you have already visited the most emblematic points of the city, and some unexpected corner, you suddenly appear in this square, and you are amazed.
We sit a little on a bench to savor the sensations of the moment, and then enter the Church of the Holy Blood, which is also located here.
A MUST HAVE!

The square is smaller than Markt and quieter but worth a visit . The exterior of the buildings are impressive and it’s worth visiting the Brasilia of Holy Blood.
It would have been lovely to see the Xmas tree on the square lit up but we had to leave earlier

When I Brugge I always stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. It is located on the Burg square also and you see this beautiful city hall when exiting the hotel. If you go to brugge it is worth the tour.

Check out the great architecture of the Stadhuis and Basilica of the Holy Blood. A very busy section of Bruges it is basically around the corner from The Markt. There are festivals occasionally held here but the courtyard architecture is the winner in this area. Often we found school children sent out on their own in this area in kind of a scavenger hunt. Be sure to check out BlindEzelStraat (Blind Donkey Street) which is one of the most photographed areas in Europe. It is often used as a photographer's learning tool. Off to the side of the Burg is a great waffle location and some unique shops.
