This is one of the best places to secure artisan chocolate in Brugge.

I must admit we went out of my curiosity after reading many comments about a Lady who manages the place.

Well, I finally met that famed Lady, showed her a sincere interest in her business and she was very happy to oblige and told us a lot about it. She is very proud of the very hard work and dedication they put behind their amazingly delicious chocolate. We even returned for a second purchase since our chocolated lasted.....well, not long enough, once you open the box you simply cannot stop.

Final thought: why this may not be the cheapest chocolate in Brugge, which is not, it is certainly one of best in terms of quality so all in all I found the price to be worth every penny.

This unassuming shop had delicious chocolate and great service. A little old lady helped us pick out our boxes and which chocolates to try. The prices were fair for a major chocolate shop in Bruges.

My last review of the wonderful madam Dumon and Nathalie, who have served me for many years. Simply the best. I wish Nathalie well in her beauty career and Madam Dumon well in her well earned rest.
I'm enjoying my selection as I have for over 20 years! I don't care what others say, I was warmly welcomed and served great chocolates.
I dare say I will visit under new owners, I shall miss you .

Dumon chocolates are luscious but I can't recommend that you buy them at the family shop on Eiermarkt. There are plenty of reviews online that talk about how rude the proprietors are. I've been multiple times and dealing with the mother and daughter owners is indeed unpleasant. They are frequently abrupt and irritated by questions so it's not a consumer-friendly place. Also it's confusing - there are pre-packaged chocolates on the lower level but signs that say "don't touch the chocolates" on each shelf. I had to think twice before daring to pick one up to take it to the register.

I also got several custom boxes for friends, with combos they specifically requested. For the last box, I asked for dark and milk chocolate only - no white chocolate. While filling the box, the daughter started muttering under her breath that all the chocolates were the same. When the box was half full, she suddenly grabbed a white chocolate piece and put it in the box. I repeated - no white chocolate - but she just glared at me and said my friend would love it. I was so stunned I didn't know what to say. She also filled the boxes with her bare hands.

Rick Steves recommends Dumon chocolate and I agree it's delicious but the unprofessional behavior of the proprietors at the Eiermarkt shop ruins the experience. The daughter not only refused to fill my order as requested but I ended up paying for chocolate I clearly said I didn't want. And she touched every single piece. Avoid this shop. There are two other Dumon shops nearby that aren't owned by the family but sell the same chocolate. Try the shop on Walstraat instead.

Chocolates are obviously good, but customers in general are not welcome. I was ignored and then treated with impatience during a transaction. Another customer was very rudely treated- a basket shoved in her hands so she didn't directly touch any of the product and a rude demand to know where she was from. She was uncomfortable speaking English and the woman came out from behind the counter to rudely demand "English, please!" I could go on, but with pleasant and personal customer service widely available in Brugge there is no reason to shop here. I'm sure you could even find a place that lets you sample before buying or make your own selection. We passed many beautiful shops on the other side of the square to check out this Rick Steve's rec. I am only taking the time to write this review so others don't make the same mistake.

I have been to Bruge a few times and make a purpose of heading to the cute little Dumon chocolatiers, however the last time I went I was taken aback with how rude the staff can be (older woman who I think may be the manager was the worst?) There are so many quaint little chocolatiers in Bruge, so I would suggest avoid Dumon and go to another where you always get service with a smile.

From reading other reviews I understand there is more than one Dumon Chocolatier in Brugge. I am referring to the one which sounds like the family run, smaller shop with the misery of a woman working behind the counter!
My partner & I entered the shop to be "greeted" by a middle-aged woman with short blonde hair behind the counter - unfortunately I didn't get her name! But sounds like many people have come across this dragon! The small shop was empty apart from us, and we were just browsing as we were wanting to buy gifts for our parents, as there was a whole lot of choice of different chocolates & boxes & prices we were just weighing it all up.
The lady asked us if she could help. We told her we were still deciding & made a light hearted complimentary comment about how much choice there was & how lovely it all looked. She persistently asked us time & time again if she could help, when it was clear we were still undecided. On the 3rd or 4th time of saying we were still deciding she pulled a face as if to say hurry up & how can you be so slow/stupid? My partner asked about a certain product & the lady behind the counter pointed to a box on the counter to which my partner picked up to look at, very carefully & placed it back very carefully too!! Then the lady said there are ones of there to look at whilst pointing. My partner went to see and as she walked off I saw the lady behind the counter pull a face behind my partner's back,'so blatantly she must have known I could see her doing it as I was waiting to purchase something - At this point I very much wanted to just say "forget it" and walk out but gave her the benefit of the doubt (thought maybe she was having a bad day)! So I asked if I could have a certain gift box of chocolates, which she got for me. I paid and as we left she said "we are open til 6:30 if you do decide you want anything else" ... in other words we were browsing in her shop too long & were too slow making a decision. She is the rudest shop keeper I have ever met!!! We left the shop feeling very frustrated & upset by this woman's way of treating her paying customers!

And as if all of this wasn't bad enough ... I came home & gave my parents the gift box which I had bought for them only for them to tell me that a piece of chocolate in the box had been half chewed!! How disgusting!!! I have provided a photo to show how this chocolate looked when they opened this gift box. Even if they were not teeth marks (which I have no doubt they are!!) then this chocolate is not very well presented at all!

I would advise everybody to avoids this certain shop at all cost! Not only is the woman the rudest woman in Brugge, you run the risk of getting half eaten chocolates! There are so many other chocolatiers in Brugge, go to any of those (I recommend Chocaholic) before you even consider putting yourself through the experience of this shop!

I visited Bruges with 3 other friends at the bank holiday weekend. Upon leaving the town on Monday the 27th we visited Dumon following all the good reviews on tripadvisor.

We were waited by this middle aged woman who seems to be wearing a cold iron mask. There were no greetings or friendly smiles. Nor did we hear a thank you after the sales. None of my friends were impressed... above all however, the experience I had was close to an insult.

There was a minimum charge of 20 euros for any card purchases, but my selection came to 19 euros. So I suggested that she charge my card with 20 euros, but to add to my purchase some of the loose chocolate sticks - they are a bit like Cadbury's choc fingers, or even smaller in size. They are sold in the shop loose or pre-packed, in which case it was 6 euros for 25 to 30 of them.

After my payment the woman handed over my purchase, and put in my palm one chocolate stick. That's all I got.

I quickly asked, 'do you think it is fair to offer me one choc stick for one euro whilst you sell 25-30 of these for 6 euros?'

She apparently didn't consider the situation remotely embarrassing, but insisted that it was pre-agreed with me. I stood there for a few seconds holding my hand out, staring at her and wondering why I felt like a poor nursery school kid who's just been tricked... at that moment, to my bewilderment, she added another one in my hand!

So there I had it - one euro in exchange for two choc fingers. And heaps of laughter of course with my mates outside. Frankly, she's the rudest and most unhelpful sales lady in Bruges.

Ended my trip to Bruges at Dumon Chocolatier. WORST MISTAKE EVER. There were two ladies there. One elderly and the other slightly younger looking, probably her sister. Coming from Asia, it was obvious that I wouldn't know what some products were. She just sneered from afar and with the most condescending tone, said 'there's fruit in it'. and went on to say something else. The elderly lady was really nice and pleasant. My wonderful trip to Bruges was hampered and ruined by this one extremely rude and hostile lady. We went into so many other shops and was treated with such warmth. I only insisted on going to the shop because of the reviews. BIG MISTAKE. I will never recommend this place to anyone, ever. Please visit the other chocolatiers around, they're much much nicer.

If you're (that lady) reading this, either buck up with the attitude (learn how to serve EVERY customers with respect) or just get someone else to handle your shop. Your pride and attitude may be the very cause of your shop's downfall.

Returned to the store after previously visiting earlier in the year and having a positive experience. Store was very quiet with one other customer and 3 people working on the counter. When we asked to select our own chocolates were told that they were too busy!! Understandable if this was the case but the rudeness/manner in which our request was brushed off showed very poor regard for a customer who they ended up losing.
