I wanted to allow some time to take in Minnewater Park while in Bruges, as I was of the belief it would be a quiet place to take some time out from the busy city centre. That was true, and it is really pleasant...but nothing spectacular. If you want to explore a quieter area in Bruges, I'd recommend instead having a wander around the canals north / north east of the central area of the city.

We first spotted Minnewater on our walk into town from the train station, and decided to return later in the weekend. On a hot day, Minnewater Park is a great place to cool down under the shade of the trees. The Minnewater Bridge overlooking the lake in the middle of the park, the “Lake of Love”, is a picturesque spot which offers marvellous photographic opportunities. The park is a peaceful oasis amid the bustle of the city.

Even if you discount the legendary love stories that created this make, Minnewater Lake, also called the Lake of Love, will still enchant you with its magical beauty. Situated just south of the city centre within a relaxing walk, this is the place to go to if you are looking for a romantic spot to chill, meditate or dream about magical love stories. The serenity of the park makes it even more unbelievable that the hustle and bustle of Bruges city centre is just a short walk away!

Minnewaterpark is located on the east side of the small rectangular shaped lake called Minnewater in the south of the historic city centre. It is more or less connected to The Vesten as part of the green lung of Bruges. The trees in Minnewaterpark are tall, mature and provide lots of shade as well as colour during the autumn when the leaves begin to turn. There are park benches along the lake if you want to find a quiet place to sit, rest and enjoy the views and quite environs.
You will also find winding footpaths taking you past some neat old buildings including the castle (Kasteel) tucked up against the western shore of the lake. To the north, you encounter the quaint and historic lock house called Sashuis just before reaching Wijngaardplein where there is additional interesting sightseeing. To the south you find the charming Lovers Bridge, Gunpowder Tower (Poertoren) and can continue on walking in either direction along The Vesten.
Lots to see and enjoy in a the relatively small rural grounds that make up minnewaterpark. It is a lovely place to enjoy a walk away from the crowds or if you simple want to find nice rural grounds while in Bruges.

Minnewater is a small rectangular shaped body of water in the south of the Historic Centre of Bruges. It is situated between Lovers Bridge to the south and the historic Sashuis to the north and is surrounded by a tree lined walkway to the west and the delightful Minnewaterpark to the east. You will also find a delightful castle (Kasteel) on the eastern shore of the lake as well as the historic Gunpowder Tower (Poertoren) just on the west side of Lovers Bridge
The main canal around Bruges is located just south Lovers Bridge while a smaller canal continues north of the small lake into the heart of the city centre, creating a continuous linked waterway through Minnewater.
This is a beautiful and quite area of Bruges away from the busy streets and crowds that clog the city squares and streets not far away. It makes for a nice place to take morning and evening walks and seems to be photogenic at all times of the year.

Park was kind of run down and hard to view the lake as it is blocked by the large private restaurant castle you see in the photos. Opposite the restaurant they were building some temporary party dock that looked very tacky. You simply can walk along the lake at this park, but after seeing Bruges old town this was a dissapointment.

We passed this area whilst walking around Bruges and we were all blown away by the beauty of the lake. We decided to stop for lunch here and enjoyed the views as we ate. I would highly recommend it for a picnic or nice walk

In contrast to Bruges' tourist crowd and lively vibe, Minnewater is a tranquil lake unaffected by the outside world. The serene waterfront adds a bit of romance to the picturesque Belgian city. Do spend some time for a stroll after appreciating the beauty of the Markt and Burg.

Minnewater (“Water of Love”) is a beautiful and quiet park with lakes, canals, flower boxes, weeping willows and whole flocks of swans. Once here, we felt that we were in an ideal world. To get there you have to walk 15-20 minutes from the city center (let's say toward to Begijhof - one more beautiful place. don't miss it). Minnewater Lake connected to the Minnewater park and you get two pleasures in one. Admire the lake, the silence, stand on the bridge decorated with flower baskets, this is a great place for a photos. Have plenty of time in Bruges and don't miss out on a lot of things to do, including this lake and park, perhaps the cutest town in Europe.

She lived in a hotel near the lake, so she took a few walks. If you are walking from the station, crossing the road, you can immediately turn right and pass the lake by making a small hook. Except in the run-up to the Christmas holidays, an ice rink was built on the lake, work was done, which slightly disturbed the atmosphere of this place. On a foggy Monday morning, there was no one near the lake, just leaves falling quietly into the water. It's worth wrapping up here for a while, and then you can take a dip in the whirlpool of the old town.

Hi, I'm visiting Bruges on 12th and 13th of February, i'm wondering does anyone know if the boat tours will be running? i was hoping to do a canal boat tour, but all seem to be closed until March from what I read online.

Hello,
We will be in Bruges the end of Feb. Will there be boat tour available then. I read somewhere it's only available from Mar-Nov. Can you please advise or clarify
Written January 4, 2019
There were boats on the canals on Feb 16 even though we had read that boat trips were closed over the winter. Large white boats were leaving from jetties and the weather was mild so you should be in luck at the end of the month.

I'm going to bruges for a day and I'd like to know what's best to do in such short time? We'll be staying in a hotel very near to bruges station so how far are the walks and also how do we get to this lake? We will be doing the boat tour hopefully but we would also like to visit this lake. Thank you

Hello,
The minewater lake is about 3-4 min by foot from the station.
If you have only one day for Bruge choose to make a round trip by boat, It costs around 8 euro per person and you can see many sites of Bruge and learn some historics from the guide. Make a walk at the old city center and go to Bruge Zot brewery-museum.

Can we take a boat ride into the city on the canals from the lake. Where are the boarding points?
Thank You.

Can we take a boat ride that will take us into the city on the canals?
Written January 3, 2017
Yes you can do that, but I prefer the horses more. You can see places you will not see with a boat. And you will also go to the Minnewater Lake with a short stop.
