In the lace museum the accent is on contextualising the origins of lace and on some early developments. Displays include the basic techniques and movements, types of lace and their geographical origins, the lace industry then and now and lace teaching in Bruges. The craftsmanship and aesthetics of lace are honoured and, in addition, the contemporary and international appeal of lace is featured. The museum was developed with multimedia and interactive displays. In addition to visiting the museum, you can watch the Kantcentrum's bobbin lacemaking demonstrations in the afternoon. This is included in the ticket price (if you come before 14h you can return with your already bought ticket). All this allows you to experience the fascination of lace in Bruges and far beyond. Price: 5,20: adults 4,20: students 12-26 year, +65 Free: -12 year The building is accessible for wheelchairs. No dogs allowed (except for guidance dogs). We have a special feelbox for the visually impaired.

I'm a needlepointer and appreciate all forms of creative work. The demonstration room upstairs houses a workroom where the day I visited seven women of varying abilities were working on projects. The scope of the pieces they were creating was eye-opening. One woman was just beginning a project under the guidance of an instructor and I learned so much, just... More

A fascinating look at the art and craft of making lace. Definitely time it for the demos to really be able to absorb the time and handicraft required to make lace. As another reviewer noted, it is mind-boggling. I truly enjoyed learning more about the intricate work required to make handmade lace.

A bit out of the typical tourist route, worth the walking. Inside, it is beautiful to explore the history of the lace and the technique they use. We were lucky enough to attend the workshop where the locals were displaying the technique and we were able to watch. Great shop as well and the people are very gentle.

Absolutely amazing history of lace making and still being handmade by all ages today. We went to see the ladies in action, amazing how they manage to keep track of togglrs, yarns and patterns. Well worth seeing evn if you're not into lace.

The video at the beginning was informative, and the exhibits were quite good. I think there may a larger collection of old lace in the Bruges Museum, but we didn't have time to go there. My favorite part was the demonstration. I didn't feel it was intrusive as another reviewer said. A couple of the ladies talked between themselves, but... More

Very welcoming staff. The 'pyramid' was interesting but I found it awkward trying to read the English translation at the bottom of the screen and watch the video. It was good to know that some of the locals are still learnig how to make lace and carry on the tradition.

A good way to pass 45 minutes. The displays are in several languages, and there is a good review of different lace making techniques.

I love making lace and so I took some private instruction here. I cannot say enough about all the wonderful people at the lace museum! My instructor was fantastic! I enjoyed her instruction as well as her company and conversation. After my class she took me down to see the "masters" at work. Incredible!! And everyone was very friendly and... More

To watch how handmade lacing is made is amazing. I had the fortune to see some very old ladies lacing at a really high speed. It's not about making money with it. It's about the pleasure of lacing fine work of art.
