This nice site is located near the famous Minnewater or Lake of Love. It was founded on 7 June 1715 by Christiaan De Vos. Six poor widows lived in this almshouses. It is dominated by the baroque chapel. The building has been protected as a monument since 1996. It is also part of Minnewater and the surrounding area which was protected as a cityscape in 1996. Today elderly people live in them. Nowe there are 4 houses. These are restored and contain modest housing to them. They now belong to the Public Service of Social Welfare.

A lovely quiet and calm area away from the noise of the town. Interesting old Almshouses, with lovely gardens.

As a day tripper wandering through the heart of Old Bruges, you will probably stumble upon the Almshouse. Walk through and enjoy the simple architecture. As other readers have noted, the gardens are not well maintained. Make it a brief pitstop.

We were told that hundreds of years ago, these homes were built for the poor. I just now read online that they were built by rich people for poor single women. Each person who received one of these homes had to pray daily for the rich person who gave it to them. Today, the homes have been modernized and restored for the elderly. It is rather beautiful with all the white homes surrounding a pretty green garden. Nice place to take a break and sit for a short while.

We really enjoyed our visit to this beautiful place. The small museum was fascinating. It is out of the way and took a little finding.

Great history and still working as housing for retired woman, the house have a little façade look, all white , the look like doll houses. The main entrance is historic, the little bridge over the canal is cute and a great spot to wave at he boat riders. It's like a scene of and old girly love story book.

Our trip to the medival city of brugges was facinating we have been back many times. Hotel Ter Duinen is one of the best small family run hotels we have had bed and breakfast in. It is also cheap and if you pay up front. the proprietor will give you a 20% discount on the cost of your stay.

We stumbled across this by accident but are so glad. The houses are still habits. If visiting Bruges add this to your list.

There are several of these Almshouse courtyards in Bruges,
If the gate is open you may enter but with respect, they are real peoples homes, and their tranquility is their charm.

The Almshouses – a stunning courtyard garden, quite hidden from the street (you need to go looking for this one), with white washed houses surrounding this garden filled with flowers and vegetables – an oasis of calm in the freneticness that is tourist Bruges. A true haven of beauty and calm
