It was a sort of medieval social service center with a religious utopian Christian theme, but with lay people. It is now a Benedictine Convent. There is a museum and the views are breathtaking. I highly recommend it.

Definitely worth visiting whilst in Bruges. Listen to the story of the place, it is very interesting. Very quiet, calming and relaxing place. Nice gift shop as well.

The garden is always open but the house of the "béguine" is open from mondau to saturday from 10 am tp 17pm sunday 14.30pm to 17pm open fee 2€
