I do enjoy spending half an hour or so slowly walking through this area, taking in the beauty of the buildings and the trees. Sadly it seems as though the whole world has discovered it with a constant stream of tourists, unfortunately some not respecting the advice for a quiet visit. I think we must have been unlucky on our... More

After visiting the center of the medieval city of Bruges with the Bell Tower and sampling the frites with mayo, we entered this quiet courtyard surrounding by white homes. The large courtyard was a grassy area with daffodils that has just finished blooming. It must have been a field of daffodils just a few days before our visit. This is... More

Beautiful peaceful grounds. The chapel and the museum are not to be missed. Only a few nuns still living there but it is a haven for single women.

My favorite place in Bruges. The only one left in Bruge. Its history as a "place of peace" lives on in the quiet yard. Visit the chapel and the museum to find out more about this lovely refuge. If only everyone respected the signs (asking visitors not to walk on the grass and for silence).

This is an example of old fashioned philanthropy and the deliberate setting of a place of calm and contemplation. Still used as a religious order there is a lovely air of calm. The tall trees give a cooling shade on a hot day

This was one of my first stops on my walk throughout Bruges. Walking around the garden in silence and spending a little bit of time in the church was wonderful. I felt recharged after time in such a serene setting.

Very nice and peaceful! Feels like the bustling city and hordes of tourists are locked out. Even though many of them naturally visit the beguine too.

If you avoid the swarms of tourists who ignore signs that ask for silence, you'll be in good shape. This place was peaceful, tranquil and gave you a break from the busyness of the city. Tour the small museum and if you're lucky, you'll see the service in the church with beautiful singing and chanting. Really very nice.

The Beguinage was founded in the mid 1200's and now is inhabited by Benedictine nuns. It is such a peaceful place and, as you walk in, you'll see a sign requesting "Silence, please". Not hard to do. We visited the church which is on the left after you have entered. There is a small museum that we did not visit.... More
