About
A small but well-regarded commercial beer company, De Struise Brouwers is the brainchild of two ostrich farm owners (and in fact, the brewery’s name is taken from the historic Flemish name for this bird). It produces award-winning, distinctive regional beers in its own microbrewery in West Flanders, making them available for sampling and sales to visitors.

We stumbled across this by chance and it was one highlights of our trip to Brugges. It is a great place to enjoy some of the new and harder to find Struise beers. While we were there the brewer was serving three beers on tap and was more than happy to have a chat about his brews. There are a couple of tables at the bar, but better still you can take your drinks to the tables outside giving you a great view of the square and Basilica of the Holy Blood. They also have most of their bottled beers on sale if you want to buy some takeaways.

This is a must see for beer geeks, but probably not for anyone else. It's a tiny shop, with two or three Struise beers on tap. There are no great comforts, but Struise are very hip and rock 'n' roll as far as brewing goes, and have fans all over the world. It's a good place to get chatting to fellow obsessives. There are lots of bottles to take away, including some rarities, depending on your luck when you visit.

The actual brewery is located in Oostvleteren and is open (free) to visitors, at least on Saturdays, at their base in an old school house. The address is Kasteelstraat 50, 8640 Oostvleteren and I found it very easily by car (with satnav) and VERY worthwhile to visit.
We visited it with a Belgian friend and stayed to sample some of the beers and found them all excellent. We finished up buying several boxes of mixed bottles to take home.
The brewer and staff obviously love their job and will talk to you quite happily for as long as you like - meanwhile serving other customers.
If you do decide to visit, take care that you have 'independant transport' or at least one of the party will have to be a designated driver and watch whilst the others sample the goods on offer. For those that do not already know, Belgian has very strict drink-drive limits and very strong beer.
If you can make the visit on a Saturday, and have the time and transport available I would strongly recommend you make this part of your Belgian holiday.

Like a previous reviewer said, this is not the brewery, just their cozy tasting room with 3 or 4 taps of their most popular brews at the time and a large variety of their bottled beers. The happy shop tender had a great sense of humor and described the pours in great detail in almost perfect English. He gave us small complimentary samples from the taps, and we bought and enjoyed a few bottles there on their small couches. The beers are excellent, rich and complex, and vary greatly from the other local brewery - De Halve Maan (which is great too.) Right next to the Basilica of the Holy Blood, super easy to find.

Only room for 8 sitting people and perhaps 8-10 standees at most before it becomes critical mass. Mainly a shop with specialist beers though it does have a tap list of 8 (I think). Some very interesting beers - if you can get in that is.

Located very close to the Burg square is De Struise brewery selling craft beers, some 10% vol. And also open for tours. Well worth a visit.

On the Burg, this tiny bar stands (no seats) around 10 people. They had a tap takeover when we were there from a Dutch brewery which made the tap beer list much longer and more interesting.

Struise makes the best beer, period. Stouts, brown ales, oud bruins, IPAs and barrel aged specialties can all be found here. They treat their customers well and are committed to their craft. ❤

there is nowhere else that you can taste these special beers. They have 3 beers on tap / draft, and lots of bottles to buy. There are seats for around 6 people but essentially this is a shop.
