Took our carriage ride on a gloomy Wednesday morning, leaving from the city square and stopping for 10 minutes at the horse statue to water and feed our horse. The carriage driver was young and friendly and happy to answer questions. Very gentle 40 minute stroll around the city taking in some of the sites we hadn’t already seen whilst wandering. It’s a set rate of 60 euros for the trip which can take up 5 people. If you’re worried about the welfare of the horses please chat to the guides. The horses are checked twice a month by a vet and do not run in temperatures over 30degrees C. From what I could see ( and I’m very fussy about these things ) all horses are very well cared for and happy. Ours even had fresh carrots from the market. Choose a week day morning rather than a weekend as it tends to be busy Saturday Sunday.

The horse and carriage ride was lovely and guide gave us some information on way round (For actual detailed information, the river cruises are much better). Beautiful way to see Brugge and horses seemed well cared for with a 5 minute rest half way, HOWEVER I would not of used if the weather had been too hot or welfare concerns for the horses but was perfect in a mild November.

The trip was completed spoilt though by very rude guides on return insulting you if you don't tip them. There are no signs for meeting place, no formal queue system, no information given on how often or how long the horses work for and no direct information on 'tips being welcomed'. At 60E for half hour, it was expensive enough and to be sworn at in English with two children present shows they have no care for customer and intended for us to hear and understand. Ruined our trip, very upsetting and hope review is a warning to all that would otherwise enjoy the experience.

This is a grand way to see Brugge. The driver is very informative as you tour this lovely old city. There is a brief stop to water and feed the hoses. The cost is currently 60 euros for a trip slightly over half an hour. The carriage can hold up to five people and we had a lovely time. Recommended.

We spent 60 Euro for about 30 min horse and carriage ride. It is a pleasant ride through Bruges. However, it was just a carriage ride for us. Our guide barely said anything other than naming a few of the buildings that we passed by. She couldn’t have been less enthusiastic. We heard the guide with the horse in front of us talking nearly the whole time. We didn’t tip our guide bc she didn’t make any effort whatsoever. It was a beautiful day for a short but expensive open air drive.

We had a wonderful tour with a very friendly and knowledgeable guide. Tour was around 40 mins, with a break for the horse, which also allowed us some wandering time. We got to see birds of Brugge we wouldn't have found in our own.

A great way to see the city. We had walked a lot of it already but decided on a carriage ride as a last day treat. Our driver was wonderful. Friendly and informative. Horse Sam was also good. Highly recommend

Me and my family decided to go for a ride with the carriage but when we saw the poor horses trying to pass through the short roads full of people we decide not to . The fee is 50€ and can ride up to 5 people. Despite the fact that horses looked well formed i believe Burgles is not the place for such a ride better to go on foot and live it to Krakow.

We were going to book one of these tours as they looked like a very romantic way of seeing Bruges. However as the day drew on it became clear that the same horses were being used to drag tourists around the cobbled streets relentlessly. By the end of the day some of them couldn't pick their feet up properly and were literally soaked in sweat, others had sores on their sides from the constant rub of the leather harnesses, and still they had to continue into the night.

Utterly disgusted by the blatant disregard towards equestrian health from those responsible for the tours, but even more disgusted by those paying for them. We will be opting for a boat tour instead!!

While a carriage ride through beautiful bruges might seem romantic, note that this is not the case for the horse. They are forced to trot around the city on hard paved roads, all day. I saw the same horses come past at least every hour, and when walking past the carriage stand one skinny bay horse was too worn out to balance himself to scratch his own head. He was also constantly shifting his weight from one leg to the other, usually they do this when their legs or hooves are sore and I wouldn't be surprised if they were. He was soon told to carry on to give the next tourists a ride. He obediently heaved his tired body forward and trotted off. Please consider exploring the city on foot or by bike, or even by boat instead. Don't support carriage drivers when their best interests clearly lie in profits, not the horses

I loved Bruges; everyone was polite, friendly and efficient and we had a wonderful time on our recent 1st visit. With one exception...

We decided to take the horse drawn carriage ride from the Markt rather than the canal boat trip (big mistake). The carriage left from the Markt and the price was quoted as 35euro for 30 minutes. The female driver pointed out one or two sights on route, we found we couldn't hear her over the noise and it really felt that she was simply going through the motions!

When we arrived at Minnewater she stopped the carriage and got off to water and feed the horse, with no explanation and no indication of how long the stop was for. We sat in our seats, not sure whether to get off and take a stroll for 5 minutes, buy an ice cream or just do a 'runner'!. We did feel a little annoyed at what we felt was poor communication and a bad service considering the high fee charged and that all of the places visited, you'll walk to later.

Some might say that this is a romantic way too see the city, I would say 'not' - you are simply doing what everyone else does and on hindsight it would have been more romantic to take our 35 euro's, buy a bottle of wine/beer and some chocs and sit by the lake, watching the World go by.

When we arrived back in the Markt after approx 35 mins (15 of which had been spent sitting at the 'horse's fountain'), the driver seemed genuinely surprised that we declined to give a tip.

Really keep your hard earnt cash in your wallet and walk the route.
