It’s a peaceful stroll outside hustle and bustle of the city center to see 4 windmills. It starts from Kruispoort and goes till Dampoort. Most of the way goes in a shadow of a park, so the route is also suitable for a hot day. One of the mills, the Sint-Janshuismolen still works and is open for visits. It costs 5 EUR and also included in the Musea Brugge Card. All in all, it’s a nice escape to have a rest from the crowds.

If you are in Bruges for even one day, you will probably get your money's worth out of this pass. If you climb the Belfort and visit the Groening with it, already you will have saved money. It is a great deal! If you are in Bruges for a few days, you absolutely must buy this pass. It is not only a ticket to all the gorgeous art works in the city, but to a good many other kinds of museums. The lovely thing about Bruges is that they're mostly within walking distance of one another. The city centre is very compact.

For 15 Euros you can purchase a three day ticket to all of the Bruges Museums, which is excellent value. If time is limited make sure you visit St. Johns Hospital for the Memlings and the Groeninge Museum which has an outstanding collection of early Flemish art. Look out in particular for Hieronymus Bosch's 'Last Judgment' and the 'Madonna and Child' by Rogier Van der Weyden.

Went here on my solo bicycle tour of Belgium and the battle fields of WWI and WWII, and was overly impressed with this piece of history.

Get a map, hire a bike and ride the ring of Brugge. Take a day looking at lovely canals, windmills, buildings. Best thing I did in Brugge by far.

Bruges is beautiful inside and out - look up at the frescos and around at the art work (eg Arentshof) A very compact city, so you can expend your energy wandering round the museums and galleries - especially if it's raining! Top places include: Groeninge for a range of Flemish art, especially the primitives ,Sint-Janshospitaal for Hans Memling, Arentshuis for Frank Brangwyn and Church of Our Lady for Michaelangelo, etc! Then there are frescoes in the Basilica of the Holy Blood and the Stadhuis...!

Tip: Buy either a Bruges city pass (48/72 hours) or, even better, a 15 euros museum pass which then lets you in free to any 5 museums/galleries - do the maths!

Thanks to the bus station clerk and the bus driver we found the windmills. At first look I felt maybe they were pseudo mills. Once I realized they were the real thing, the location - my mind set was rewarded. Understanding the history also helps realize the location and work horse these mills were and are.

A beautiful, colourful place, away from the bustle of the city square. A must visit for all those people who are looking to beat the crowd. The route houses old-fashioned yet lovely houses on either side. The more you walk through the streets the more you feel like you have been sent to the past via a time machine. The place has two windmills, the windmills Bonne Chiere, and a canal by its side. All in all its a great place to unwind yourself and relax. Loved it and highly recommend it! A must-visit in Bruges!

There are three windmills along the canal with a lovely walking and bike path right beside them. If doing a bike ride to Damme (which is worth it) ride along this path to the bridge and over to the canal path to Damme. Canal barges coming and going, little bridges, windmills. All lovely.

We went on this walk to blow away some cobwebs and burn off all the hot chocolates and pralines we'd consumed.
A lovely scenic trail along the riverside and enjoyable stroll back I to the town through many quaint and stunning lanes and streets. Very peaceful and secluded.
The windmills were very beautiful and worth seeing for the authentic and uniquely interesting side of the town.

My partner and I did this walk as part of our holiday.and we accessed the outer ring of the canal system at about travelled clockwise and followed the canal around keeping the town on our right hand side, the canal on our left.
Making our way around we came across the windmills and the various gateway forts that once protected the town.
Don't be put off by the small section of the industrial side of Brugge, all towns have one somewhere.

This is all level walking, just take it at your own pace.

Once we completed the walk we followed the route into town looking at the building and calling at the museums we wanted to see.

The weather was warm and sunny, so this was a great way to explore the town and avoid the busier shopping areas.

The outer ring is quiet with a few joggers, but beware of cyclists.
Not all have bells on their bikes and just get agitated if you obstruct their way.

There are a few roads to cross as you make your way around, but don't let this put you off.

Cycling the outer ring is also a great way to explore.

Duration of the walk for us who are reasonably fit was 4 hours.
The distance is whatever you want it to be as it easy to shorten it.

Just enjoy it.................... we did.
