Absolute gem in the middle of Leuven, a beautifully tended and peaceful botanic garden. Plenty of benches to sit back and appreciate the scenery around you and enjoy a bite to eat, but you can’t sit on the grass to picnic! Statues, glasshouses, tropical house with terrapin turtles.

This garden deserves a daily visit while you are in Leuven. Each day something new pops up and the collection of plants is gorgeous and the garden is beautifully maintained. It is centrally located, easy to walk to from most of Leuven and open daily. I loved visiting it everyday for two weeks in February. I imagine it even more delightful in the flowering seasons. Take your children -- besides the wonderful paths to explore, there are chickens in one part of the garden and often ducks on the pond.

Wishing I'd found this beautiful open garden earlier during my stay as I know I could have spent many more happy times here wandering around enjoying this magical space.

Suddenly you leave the hustle and bustle of the busy city behind and enter this quiet oasis of calm verdant, well maintained gardens. The paths meander around a variety of borders and beds giving an illusion of many more acres. All perfectly labelled for a magical mystery tour of plants, trees and tropical oases.

Mine was a winter visit but event hough the plants were largely sparse of foliage or flower, the interest was spellbinding for one who loves plants. The Witch-hazel being the show stopper with its fragrant blossoms.

When i next return the crocus may be in full bloom, we shall have to see......

Nice and quiet place to wonder around. Even in a cold month as January. There are a few buildings you can enter as well

Just like the 'Groot Begijnhof', the Botanical Garden is one of those hidden gems in Leuven. Fantastically well maintained by the city-personnel and with an abundance of green and flowers.

At the end of the red brick road lies the emerald garden. The Leuven Botanical Garden is a real oasis offering peace and tranquillity with its very many trees and flowers. It covers a big area and has a vast variety of plants, ranging from tropical ones to fruits and vegetables. The little fountains provide a breath of freshness and the statues are beautiful and almost alive. There are paths guiding you around and also lots of benches to rest after long strolls.
Perfect for every season and for people of all ages. The entrance is free.

Definitely one of the nice a green spaces in Leuven.. Must visit especially in summer. Benches are available if you want a quiet place to work, read or eat a sandwich. Easily reachable by bus. Pay park for cars also nearby.

On the recommendation of some local friends, we took a visit here and after a wander around and to admire the excellently tended and cared for plants and little ponds, we settled down to enjoy the sun and the peace and a chat in the tranquility. There is a small picnic area which you could bring your own food along to and as it's not particularly visited by many people, you can be sure of the space to read and relax alone or with a chum.
