As we walked by we saw the quality of the food so decided to go there for a meal. Unfortunately the first night it was completely full, so decided to go at lunch the next day. Had a window seat and spent the next couple of hours watching the world go by and enjoying a lovely meal with a bottle of wine. The Ghent stew was superb. The staff were very friendly and we did not feel at all rushed. Would certainly recommend.

For a start: eating out in Ghent ain’t cheap, despite 1.36E/GBP.
This is a pleasant restaurant, the staff were exceptionally friendly and polite and the price reasonable. BUT, in actual fact the food wasn’t of particularly high standard. Soup was good, but the “tapas” was just a mixture of cold (mostly salad) ingredients. Mrs had a "beetroot, walnut and ham" pasta salad affair which appeared o contain no meat.
The beer was not unreasonably priced and the table overlooking the canal was good (dine outside if you like smoking and don’t mind midges).
So all in all you get what you pay for (we were there in the evening).

Called in for lunch as we were staying at the Hotel Gravensteen just opposite. Quirky decor with musical instruments around the place and large black and white photos of singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee on the walls. Enjoyed excellent quiche and spaghetti bolognese and wish we'd called in sooner.

The bar was comfortable with a good atmosphere. It is located on a quiet street in the old part of town, not far from the castle, tram stops and the river front where the boat rides leave. More importantly it is only about 30 metres from the Hotel Gravensteen where we stayed, so it did not take long to stumble home at 1am after a pleasant few drinks!
The staff were friendly and there was a good choice of strong Belgian beers available. The main room is decorated with a musical theme and there is music playing, but it isn't invasive so doesn't stop you having a chat. There is food available which we thought was good quality and good value, this is also served in the quaint little room at the back where you can get a pleasant window seat overlooking the canal.
We really liked this bar and it was our favourite of all the ones we tried during our weekend in Ghent!

Went here for lunch. Great soup, atmosphere and helpful service. The view from the window in the room out the back was pleasant and out of the cool wind. Enjoyed out time here.

You can't book a table here so we called in on Easter Sunday after watching the Tour of Flanders hoping for a table. We were in luck and sat near the window. decent veggie food and nice cold beer, service could have been better; I had to ask twice for some bread (every other table had crusty baguettes) - when it finally arrived it was sliced white loaf...

Had to go to the bar to order drinks, seems the table service only applies to food or maybe they couldn't be bothered/were too busy.

We got chatting to some other people who were in Ghent for the cycling which made it a really pleasurable evening.

There's live music on a Sunday night, but be warned - it's downstairs, they don't tell you it's started and you can't hear it from upstairs! We missed the whole show :-(

Gorgeous food - quick and friendly service. It was hosting couples, elderly people, young people and we took a toddler and a baby with us. Had an early dinner at 7pm. Gorgeous salads and huge portions of pasta - all for about 10 Euros. I wish we had found it on the first night as I would have eaten there every night! Not your standard tourist menu.

This place was packed but we managed to find a little table in the back and I'm sure glad we did. The whole place was lit with candles and the walls just oozed charm and history. The food was delicious as was the beer. The staff were very friendly and spoke perfect English and the music was fantastic. This was one restaurant I really didn't want to leave! I honestly can't think of any way they could improve this place...highly-recommended. By the way Tripadvisor, why is this listed as an "attraction" and not a "restaurant" (which it is)??

We stumbled upon this place on our first night in Gent and were pleased to find a table in the back room overlooking the canal. The little room is lit by candles. One couple was playing chess, and another woman was sitting by herself writing in her journal. Others were drinking and eating, and everyone seemed comfortable with staying as long as they liked. We got an excellent but very inexpensive house red wine, a bowl of delicious risotto and another bowl of equally delicious spaghetti (described as Belgian bolognese, to indicate that it contained beef and not veal). The server was friendly and welcoming, and a patron at the bar, who spoke very little English, nevertheless tried to persuade us to come back for the music. We will certainly be back for the food and atmosphere!
