We only ended up in the large Kouter square (with a car park underneath) because our usual tram stop from the centre to the railway station seemed to have disappeared. A local finally sent us to the Zonnestraat stop in Kouter Square, where we had to wait so long in the freezing cold, we had ample opportunity to study our surroundings. Walking around the square, we saw few buildings of interest apart from a fine cast-iron bandstand (1878) and two beautiful 18th-century rococo buildings, Hotel Falligan at no. 172, now housing a private society, and the former Guard House at no. 29, now concert hall HA. A surprising feature were the many brass, copper, and cast-iron leaves embedded in the pavement of the square. A work of art called “Mystic Leaves” by American artist Jessica Diamond, who is said to have been inspired by the flora in the famous Van Eyck brothers’ altarpiece and the flower market in Kouter Square on Sunday. That is probably the best day to visit.

We missed the flower market and that maked this square decidely ordinary . It has a nice bandstand but if there isn't anything going on then it's not really worth a visit.
I suppose on awarm summers day it might be a nice place to sit and relax.

Every sunday there's a nice flower market all over the square, sometimes with live music in the kiosk.

We spent a delightful two hours at the Flower Market. Spectacular offerings, great people watching ...many with well behaved dogs and an orchestra that has played since the 1800's. I suspect the musicians have changed over the years.

Anyway, we have been to many Flower Markets and this is Numero Uno!

There's no reason to go to this square unless you go on Sunday mornings for the flower market and then it's a beautiful! There's so much to see and smell!

The square itself is not that exceptional, but on sunday you will find the flower market here (from about 10 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon) and then it is the place to be. Stroll around, watch the locals, have an espresso or some oysters and white wine.

We actually were looking for breakfast when we came past this market and lucky for us there is a cute little café stand right there.. serves great coffees and croissants as well as other yummy things. The flower market itself is a great place to visit and get those wonderful flowers and plants. If your going visiting then stop by this place and get something nice.. a wonderful variety.. great colors sights, smells and sounds

In the 60's and 70's, some very nice buildings have been demolished to put up some 'modern' (in those days) concrete monsters.....
But it still remains a nice place to stroll, especially on a Sunday morning, when the famous flower market takes place.

At the time of our walk-through of this nice plaza it as near sunset in mid summer holiday time and it was almost deserted. It was scenic and serene. Nice. The bandstand and inlay plaza plaques were nice. It must be really fun during the flower mart and musical events.

It's turnoing into a stunning flowermarket every weekend. It's very often that you can hear live music there.
During festivals - it holds some extra venues.
Underneath there's a big parkingspace. The place is surrounded with banks, bookstores and other shops.
