The design museum was on our walking route from the castle so we took the opportunity to drop in. When we visited their was a very good bicycle exhibition in place but this would have been a temporary exhibit. It was worthwhile, the rest of the museum and its more permanent exhibits could be covered pretty quickly. A good activity... More

I was lucky that they were having an exhibition looking at artists and the design industry. I really enjoy looking at the working process of the artists and learning how they design, redesign, and rework their ideas into actual products. A great place to get students thinking about the long and tedious design process.

Rather a mixed bunch: part a classic building with beautifully designed furniture, part a more modern building with education on the process of design and manufacturing. It was the only central museum that was actually open on 31 December, so an easy pick, but worthwhile. Good (pop-up) cafe in the patio-area.

Visited today ... missing what sounded like a great bike exhibition. Nothing of note or great interest to view. Haphazard presentation, poorly explained. Must be missing something - can't see the attraction. Miserable staff too. The only low point of a fabulous four days in Bruges and Ghent.

If you are a student of design this is well worth a visit. It takes 30-45 minutes and is a trove of famous design from Belgium, with an eclectic mix of pieces from the past and present.

If you like art, you'll like this museum. But they call it a design museum and it isn't. A browse around the bike exhibit makes this clear. Yes, there's the odd bike that's interesting - designed to carry loads with a low centre of gravity. But it's mostly poor design presented as good design. Bikes made with wood frames that... More

Our guiding book showed this place as a place of interest. We were even excited about this visit. The disappointment was as big as our expectations. It is a small museum, it not reach in exhibits and it's doesn't worth the price of the ticket. Nothing there left us impressed like other museums or castles. The forced mixture of old... More

The building itself is already art...A Piece of Furniture is also a House exhibit is amazing, really interesting combination of old and modern objects. Highly recommend a visit if you're in Ghent!

The Design Museum in Ghent was, frankly, a total disappointment. If you like bicycles, it is truly amazing – a huge part of the available display space was occupied by bicycles of all makes, types, and ages. However, I was hugely disappointed by the current collection. In part, I was using an older guidebook and had arrived expecting to see... More

The temporary bike exhibition was good. The permanent collection was pretty poor to be honest. It seemed a thrown together mix without any explanation. For example, they had a room dedicated to the most influential Belgian designer of the 20th century but only one introductory writing to the whole room. Some exhibits had a bar code which if you had... More
