Beautiful place to visit and walk around. Nice restaurants on both sides of the river. Also, there are boat tours available. Can be visited while walking around Ghent city center and visiting different attractions

If you’re visiting the main churches and Saint Michael’s Bridge, then you are already here. The historic buildings on both sides of the river are impressive. There are several food and rink options lining this area as well as canal tour options. You are right in the heart of the tourist area here and while it is VERY busy, it’s just too impressive and cool not to come by and spend some time anyway.

This is literally the most beautiful view in Ghent, and one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Stand on Sint Michielsbrug and gaze to the left at the Korenlei. Then slowly move gaze across the water to the Graslei and the old Postal Office. Once you have seen this, you can start exploring Ghent, including the medieval Gravensteen (Castle of the Counts) which is less than a stone's throw away (if you are really good at throwing stones).
This is Ghent at its most essential.

Not much to add to most reviews. This place really looks great and has an awesome athmosphere to it. Only minus are the huge crowds that grow during the day, in the forenoon or especially morning it's less crowded. But all of that is of course to be expected.

The Graslei and Korenlei are the heart of Ghent and are a can't miss on your visit there. The buildings are beautiful to look at and when you add in the river too, this has to be one of the best city centers in Europe. If you were unsure whether to visit Ghent seeing photos of here should make up your mind.

We visited Ghent whilst we were staying in Brussels. We would highly recommend visiting if you can. We decided to do a boat tour and so glad we did. We were able to get some amazing photographs of the place. The 50 minute boat trip was informative and well worth the money. Would highly recommend and would return.

Absolutely loved this charming area - so idyllic esp. on nice weather days, great to wander the shops and eateries while also exploring the churches, St.Michaels Bridge, Castle not far away, and all of city center - equally fantastic/must see spots!!

Α medieval city located between Brussels and Brugge. It is really unexpected what you see when you reach the city center. It is like a journey in time. The lights of night are fantastic. Walking by the riverside is a must.

This is one of the most beautiful parts of town because of the canal architecture. It is in the center, near the castle. You will find a lot of restaurants here, many with terraces that face the canals. A good place to stroll or to sit on a terrace and enjoy the views.

Is the canal ride available during the month of January or does it close for the winter?
Written October 8, 2018
I was there in September not sure about Winter. Worth checking, But if you can visit Brugges, I think that canal tour would be much more picturesque! The part of Ghent on the canal that's the most beautiful is the short 200meter area near Graslei and Korenlei. Beyond that it's just... a canal? I didn't do it, so I cannot judge. I did stay there though and it's beautiful. Dining, walking, photographing in the evening, etc. But for canal tour, definitely Brugges!

Do all attractions of Ghent are connected by trams.
Is it possible to get a day ticket and explore the city with all the major attractions?
Written May 24, 2018
There is a small city bus turning round the city center and is free, is very interesting and the drivers are very good

We are staying in Brussels and are planning to catch a train to Graslei and Korenlei. Do we catch the train to Gent Sint Pieters and is it in walking distance from the train station or do we need another form of transport from the train station.
Written August 19, 2017
You can get a train to Gent and it's a 40 mins walk form the train station or you can get a tram and it will take only 10mins.

Hi!
We don't really have much time in Gent. Which side should we be on for better view - Day and night scene?
Also, basically it is the walk from where River Lieve meets River Leie down to the Sint Michiel Bridge?
Written June 9, 2017
Both sides are gorgeous, and go at night.

Graslei and Koreniei are the two embankments that face each other across Ghent's medieval harbor. There are guild houses on the Graslei side that hold historic significance to the city...and are quite picturesque. This entire area is a walking area and affords some of the best photo opportunities. Also, there are canal boats for hire in this area that are worth the hour to hour and a half time and about 6 Euro price.
