Parnassus is a restaurant that is run by a real chef, with the help of long-term unemployed people, and/or people that are unable to work in a competetive environment.
At the register you will be asked to fill in a form and you will receive a membershipcard. That is for free, but they have to do so, because of their legal structure.
They have a dish of the day, and a vegetaria alternative. There is soup and you can also choose from the salad bar. It all seem a little chaotic, but the scenery of the old church is worth the visit. And the price/quality ratio of the food can't be beaten.

Maybe not the best restaurant in Ghent. But why bother? You pay only 8,50 euro for soup and main dish. And to me, that's a correct and accessible price. It's a social restaurant (so don't complain about the waitress in training!) but the scenery can compete easily with other Ghent restaurants. It's an old franciscan church with most of the ornamentation and furniture still there. But they were wise enough to remove the church chairs ;-)
In the evening, it becomes a concert hall.
