Definitely worth a visit. It is free to enter and offers plenty to see, with tons of art, paintings, architecture and relics. An impressive structure and if you're lucky, you might even attend the rehearsal for mass with the choir which was absolutely mesmerizing.

The First thing I remember is that it was freezing cold in the cathedral. It was beautiful to visit, if you want to see the “Lam Gods” you need to pay a fee (around €4 p/p) situated at the left When you enter. For the...More

We weren't originally planning to go, but one person in our group really wanted to see the Altarpiece before leaving Ghent. Afterwards, did lots of research on the church and the masterpieces within, coming to the conclusion that this is one of the most underrated...More

Rich in decorations, lovely pulpit, beautiful windows and an old, well preserved crypt with many tombs just below the ground level of the actual cathedral. Last but not least it's free entrance.

This one is top of my church list, absolutely spectacular. Masterpieces, sculptures and just amazing marble. Top that off with the Mystic Lamb panels, unbeatable.

This is just the most spectacular church I have ever visited and I have seen hundreds. Do some research before you get there because saw so many people walking straight past masterpieces without even knowing

Came here with Mieke our very knowledgeable tour guide. The alter piece in its original venue is a must see.

Well worth a visit as churches go. Beautiful, especially at Christmas time. The stain glass windows are just one part to note.

this Cathedral dominates the city and contains one of Western Art's most important works...the Ghent Altarpiece by the Arnolfini brothers (c1430). The crypt is wonderful too.

Hi there! Yes it is but not in the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb section. As applies to most Churches and Cathedrals just respect your surroundings and usually people are OK :)

about 55km or so and I would advise using the train as Ghent is a busy town with lots of pedestrian traffic and cyclists. hope this helps.

It is my understanding that the altarpiece will not be fully restored until 2017. As the other respondents have said, you pay a fee to go into a small, crowded chapel at the back of the cathedral to see the altarpiece behind... More
