About
Vooruit is a vibrant live performing arts center located in a 100 years old monument in the heart of Ghent. Since 1982, we have been offering countless cultural events like concerts, podium performances, parties, book presentations, debates... Vooruit is a significant meeting place for a very diverse public. Contributing to this is our popular Cafe with patio, where anyone can come enjoy a (vegetarian) meal or drink, meet for a chat, or catch up on some work.

A place with a beating heart
Sep 2019
"The Vooruit" is a historic building with a visible past, clearly integrated in today's hustle. It is hardly ever empty, and you'll find all types of visitors here; young and old, groups, families and solitary wanderers, writers, students, thinkers, artists, ... All of us grateful for the inspiration the walls provide.

The building has various different rooms that are used for expos, concerts or performances, and each of them still portrays a proud representation of this building's past.

To me, this place holds wonderful memories of long philosophic conversations over cold beers. I still love going there, downstairs on rainy days or on cold nights, and on the roof terrace on summer evenings. The staff also participate in the concept of buying "a delayed coffee / soup", meaning you can, if you want to, buy a coffee for a person who might otherwise not have the luxury to enjoy one... A concept as heartfelt as the place itself.

The only thing I have to admit this place doesn't really live up to, is the food. It's quite expensive and I'm not sure if it is worth the money. But in terms of ambiance and inspiration, this place is truly worth the visit!

Magnificent Facade
Nov 2019
WE passed this building early evening and very late night on two occasions, when we were walking back to the centre having been at the cycling velodrome.
There were a lot of people going in on the early evening but we didn't enter.
It's best viewed from the street opposite.

Expensively average.

Overpriced and very underwhelming food- croque monsieur is dry, coffee is a bean to cup machine- weak and not hot enough.
Service was terrible. Some of my order was missed but the staff were rude and unapologetic about it. It doesn’t meet the hype. The building is beautiful, but avoid the cafe.

An interesting old building

Had a lovely lunch sitting in the sun in the outside restaurant. They hold many activities there - such as film and arts festival. Plenty of parking for your bicycle downstairs too!

A bar with a buzz!!
Apr 2019 • Couples
This is a great place to drop in for a late afternoon beer. It's a "take us as you find us" sort of bar. A place where students meet their friends; they can equally find a corner to catch up on course work. Also a friendly atmospheric place for a family to gather for a drink. The seating is mainly in long rows, so you might find yourself sitting next to complete strangers, perfect for a chance encounter. The room itself is glorious, full of artistic touches and the beer isn't bad either!

great place, I saw my first gigs here a long time ago. Nice concert venue but several areas fitted for performances. Next to a very nice café and since a couple,of years great terrace for the sunny days . proffesionaly run but still that alternative hint.

The Vooruit - the center of the world when I was a student in the 70
Jun 2018 • Friends
Even after 40 or 5à years, I 'm still in admiration of the building and inside the atmosphere. In the mid '70, it was a place to discuss about Marx and Marcuse. This week I saw students working on their laptop, businessman having a small meeting and a older men reading his book. Meanwhile there was a huge book selling day for 11-11-11 on the first floor at 2 euro piece. Old and new books from the library. This is still a center for all the real students.
