We went with the whole family (teens, young kids my husband and my senior mother, it was very interesting, safe and easy to do on your own. The person in the store is very kind and knows a lot about the place. A must see if you are in dinant.

Beautiful caves, really pretty and well maintained. A must see specially for big kids. The guide is excellent, and has a clever way of explaining facts. In addition, he speaks good english.
The tour starts at the beginning of every hour, so don't arrive at 1.30 for example to avoid waiting
Take care, don't go down if you are claustrophobic or can't handle long stairs. You can wait for your party in the cute shaded area

After we visited the Citadel, we left by car, the Place Reine Astrid and we arrived in 3 minutes at Grotte de Dinant.
We have received from the Citadel discount of 2 euros per person for ticket from Grotte de Dinant.
The program is from November to March: open every weekend + holiday and Christmas from 1pm to 5 p.m.
It takes about fifty minutes to visit the cave. You'll be suprised by this mysterious world made of white stalactites and stalagmites.
After a series of tunnels and rooms that will allow you to enjoy the concretions of calcite on the walls, you reach the large room that contains beautiful stalactites and waterfalls of white calcite.
In the end we left the cave by climbing the 120 steps

The caves were very impressive but the whole experience was marred by lack of information.
I tried to find opening times online but their website seems to have been hacked and leads to an Italian climbing site. Got there at 11 to find it opened at 12 (google search). No opening times displayed at the venue but Google assured me it opened at 11 on Friday (details updated by the business 3 weeks ago). Arrived to find a scribbled note on the door saying it opened at 12. I said to staff that the website took you to a climbing site and was told “it’s bad”. Surely if they know the website is wrong they’d do something.
The tour was unguided and at a couple of places not well lit on the stairs.
May have enjoyed it more if I’d not been so frustrated by lack of information.

Don't understand why this place is not advertised more. When I saw the main house were we bought the tickets I couldn't imagine that this poor house conceal a real beauty in the underground!
It is 12 degrees inside the caves, so it was wormer than outside. The rooms and corridors are amazing, I couldn't believe that this was naturally formed as there was sea millions years ago.
We had a really great guide who, I think really likes his job. So it was very interesting to listen. Price of ticket was 7 euro/person as before we visited Citadel of Dinant, we got a discount for this place.
This is a thing that you shouldn't miss if you are in Ardennes. There are free parking places there.

The "Grotte de Dinant" ("Grot van Dinant"), more popularly known as "La Merveilleuse", was discovered in 1904 by accident when railway construction crews blasted the side of a cliff. The underground caverns are regarded as one of if not the best in Belgium. They built nice staircases and walkways inside so that you can take the 45-minute guided tour wearing high-heels (although not recommended). Anyhow, it's supposed to be *that* easy.
The problem is that the current management is not doing their job. When we took our tour, the lights went out -- and we thought "Oh the guide is trying to scare us and/or let us experience how dark it is underground" -- because almost every underground cavern tour involves a "lights out" moment. Now imagine our concern when the lights failed to come back on! What surprised me most was that I saw (or think I saw) *two* sets of lighting systems -- presumably the main lights and an emergency backup -- but *both* failed. The guide and his colleague tried for almost an hour to fix the system to no avail. We were refunded our money.
The entrance hall (where they sell tickets and drinks) was not heated although it was near-freezing temperature (there was frost on the ground and on the roofs of houses). The management seemed intent on minimizing their expenditures. If true, this means the "lights out" problem may re-occur.
Until positive reviews appear on Trip Advisor or other sites, I recommend *against* visiting this deteriorating facility.

We walked up the hill to the grotte for opening time at 11.00 am. Apparently there was a technical problem so the grotte was closed. No, they did not know if or when the technician would arrive. Not very professional.

Not only are these caves a geological masterpiece, but they also form a very interesting, covert part of WW2 history. The guide was very helpful and informative with his talk (Eng, Fre, Ned) and the staff in the ticket office were absolutely charming. A really great trip and good value for money. Not suitable for very small children or elderly as caves are slippy and there are a lot of steep stairs.

This was the second cave I have ever visited. The cave is very beautiful and the guide was excellent. The lights of a very small part of the cave did not work, but we were warned by the guide. He had two large flashlights with him so that was no problem.

Our guide took us down into the cave and told a lot about it :) It's amazing how different and colorful this place can be. If you have good imagination, you'll see waterfalls, animals, witches and even small Buddha there. If no - well, anyway you can be impressed by the spacious hall under the ground. And if you are lucky, you'll meet local bat sleeping on the wall :)
