Worth a Visit
Oct 2019
Garden's are beautiful and full of orange trees, the Chateau is very grand and there is a lot to be seen.
Considering the price they charge for entry it would have been nice to have had a cafe to sit and have a rest a coffee and maybe a bite to eat, rather than having to make one's own drinks from a coffee machine, if my wife and I had known how limited we were going to be we would have take our own food and drinks.

Beautiful French Chateau and Gardens
Sep 2019
Situated on the banks of the Meuse this place is definitely worth a visit. We went on a Saturday and on that day there was free entry. Think this applies at weekends but check their website. On this day there were many volunteers all dressed in period costume which added to the atmosphere. Interesting gardens with some orange trees some of which were over 300 years old. You can also go round the house itself. That was also beautiful but I felt the information provided about the history of it and particularly of the family owners was poor and could have been done a lot better but overall a very good half day trip.

Thank you for your comments. It is free entrance once per year during the Heritage Day. That's why you have seen many volunteers dressed in period costume. It changes each year depending of the theme. For the other weekends, the entrance must be paid

Gardens a must
Sep 2017 • Friends
Gardens excellent design. Formal and few flowers at least when we went. Orangerie very interesting. Gardens reasonably maintained.

Location beside river great and interesting way gardens uses it.

We Did not visit castle itself because of time issues.

Looked great! But we've been stopped right from the start as they do not accept credit card payment... Really disappointing that no one (not the tourist office, nor the multiple guides) told us about this "detail".

We are really sorry that we cannot accept credit card but it is too expensive for a familial private one castle (and too small amounts). We are searching for an on line payment solution but we have first to resolve the problem of connectivity to the born (more difficult in the countryside).

Chateau well worth visiting
Sep 2016 • Friends
10 minutes driving south from Dinant on the east side of the river there is a view point and picnic site which gives a great view of the river and chateau. The chateau is best reached from Dinant by driving down south on the east bank of the river. It is run by volunteers. The garden and summer house shouldn't be missed.

extremely dirty ponds and fountains
Jul 2016 • Friends
The excursion was rather good, but the guide tended to underline that it is a Belgian chateau. She made a lot of disapproving remarks about the French in their history that were not pleasant at all especially for our colleague from France.
The chateau is small and there is nothing special in there, but the surrounding park would be nice if the fountains were clean. All the ponds and fountains are full of algae, it seems as if they were not cleaned for at least half of a century. It has spoilt all the impression.
The orange trees are mostly old and not very beautiful.
The chateau was also full of advertising materials abouts some places to visit in Poland.

Hello Madam, We are always happy to receive visitors from all over the world, including Russia. We are sorry that you did not keep a better souvenir of your visit of the Castle of Freÿr, unlike the vast majority of our guests who leave us delighted and very enthusiastic feedback in our guestbook. We are very concerned to constantly improve the quality of our infrastructure and our visits. As exceptional “Walloon heritage”, tours are guided by professionals. Yours was a historian who has always been highly appreciated by all our visitors, including the French. Algae that are in the basins formed at the beginning of the spring (a few months ago). This is the time we need to test new natural solutions, that is to say without using chemicals. You have seen that there are some pools that have almost no seaweed. The Castle of Freÿr being concerned about the environment is committed to find, in all areas, new sustainable solutions. Come back to see us in our beautiful region and feel free to ask us any question. We are pleased to share with our visitors from around the world !

A Taste of History
Sep 2015 • Couples
Lovely old chateau that brings back an interesting in French/Belgian history. Though only a few of the rooms are open for viewing, there are treasures to been seen. The gardens are very formal so don't expect flowers. Nice drive to the Chateau along the river from our lodging in Dinant.

Interesting Chateau Out in the Countryside
Jul 2015 • Couples
Nice tour with information fully available in English. The chateau gives a good view of life for a family of the lower nobility in an incredibly scenic spot on the Meuse. Well preserved, nicely presented, with a fair admission price. Commentaries were more insightful than those in most historic houses.
